During the volcano fiasco we found ourselves in Koln in need of a hotel for the night. We asked a colleague back in the UK to book us a 3/4* hotel near the train station, which to be fair she did. However, after travelling for over 8 hours, in need of some decent food and a comfortable hotel, we were confronted by this place. On approaching it we were hoping that it wasn't the hotel that had been booked for us, but on landing on the front step we were saddened to see that it was. Horrified by the look of the hotel, we contemplated just doing a runner (as the room had already been paid for) but then the owner clocked us, and stared at us from the dining room window, so we felt we had to go in. After asking for a refund the owner (a very rude little man) became rather unhelpful and developed a sudden on set of selective hearing. We ended up paying 80% of the room charge, and checked in to a nice 4* around the corner for a better price. This is NOT a typical 3* and is grossly overpriced. Although we did not see the inside of the rooms, the photos displayed were enough to put us off. Like I said my opinion may have neen different had we seen the rooms, or had i been a little less tetchy from my travels!
