“good for one night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We went shopping in Cologne, stayed there one night, we were not that impressed.
The room was clean, had a flatscreen, but very bad reception. The guy at the reception was not super friendly. To get to our room we had to take plenty of stairs, we were not presented any assistance at all to carry some bags.
When we came in the room, it was so freaking hot we had to open the windows and then there was so much noise from the street. But once we closed the windows the noise was gone. The location is ok, pleny of restaurants in walking distance and about 20min from 'the dome'. So, ok for a night, but nothing more. If you go by car be carefull when parking in the garage underneath the hotel, some turns are pretty narrow.

“great value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

Have just returned from a weekend xmas market break that included a two night stay at the flandrischer hof. Having read the previous reviews on the hotel we decideded it would suit us a couple looking for a base to explore the various xmas markets of cologne. The hotel is a short taxi ride away from the main train station, price was about 7 euros in a taxi. Checked in, was given a room on the 6th floor, no problem. The rooms are not huge, but comfortable enough and spotlessly clean, including fresh bed linen and towells. A flat screen telly was also a bonus, cnn, bbc world the english speaking channells. Breakfast, again the restaurant was spotless with all the tables covered in tablecloths , all utensills spotless. Wide variety of food available, breads ,fruit scrambelled eggs etc, all fresh and good.

The hotel is nicely located for all the xmas markets, with the one at rudolfplatz a 5 minute walk away. Would say this hotel is very convienient for all the major cologne sites, and would strongly recommend this hotel for a good stay in cologne.

“Amazing hotel !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Just returned from 3 nights at the Flandrischer Hof Hotel as we were staying in Cologne to visit the Christmas markets. The location is excellent for all the markets and general sight-seeing and there are many good value restaurants within a very short distance. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had originally booked a twin room, but we were upgraded to 2 single rooms (next to each other) which had just been decorated, and they were exceedingly comfortable, spacious, clean and modern.
The hotel is amazing value for a 3* hotel - and the choice at breakfast was excellent. If you want a very quiet room, ask for a room at the back of the hotel. You can then keep your window open all night without being disturbed by any street noise!!
Only one minor point - there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are quieter and get the morning sunshine.

“Flandrisher Hof Cologne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

Hi - What a nice class looking place this is ! Marbled flooring throughout and 3 star surprised us to be truthful as we thought it might be higher ? The most helpful reception staff who were fluent in English which was cool as our German is the most dreadful aka non existent :-) The room was superbly clean and comfortable with Ikea style duvet and pillow - do ask for another as they are some what flat ... if I had to have a moan and by this it is being petty, the TV does not cater for International clientele - its in German and not that good a picture . Internet is available at cost and when we were there it was 5 Euros for 24 hours and once again it was not a good connection ( We gave up on it ) However , the place is pretty nice and breakfast is gorgeous with such a vast array of foods from cereals to fruit to hams and cheeses :-) a foodies heaven actually . We did hear of complaints from folk with rooms over looking the main streets with noise and youngsters shouting but we did not have any off this.

Cologne is a very Cosmopolitan City - something for everyone ! The Christmas Markets are gorgeous and lots of people about at night and look fabulous all lit up

So if you want restaurant food or a beer ( Irish bar across the road ) or Burger King or KFC its all within 5 mins walk of the hotel

Total out of 10 - Yeah an 8

“Comfortable, homely hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

I have just returned from a stay at the Flandrischer Hof, it was approx 8 years since I was last there and it hasn't changed a bit! It was rather dated then so the bedrooms and bathrooms are really in need of an update now. However, the atmosphere here is very relaxed, the large twin room had 3 beds in it and two huge windows overlooking the busy main and noisy road. (This didn't bother us but others may not like this.) The rooms are cleaned daily and the beds are comfortable. There's a TV (one English BBC World News channel) but no tea/coffee making, fridge, safe or body lotion in the bathroom. Hairdryer is available from reception.

Although this doesn't sound too good, the hotel suits us. The breakfast is excellent, staff are more than helpful and they keep luggage after check-out. Also, the location is fab! The Randolf U-Bahn (underground) is outside the hotel with Freisplatz U-Bahn just a short walk. There is a small Christmas market opposite the hotel too and a short walk to the Neu Markt Christmas Market. The Dom Christmas Market and two further ones at the end of Neu Markt are also a short walk away. There are loads of eating places, pubs, shops all in close proximity. If you like Irish Bars there are two great ones, 'Shamrock' is under the hotel and is popular. The hotel has it's own night life with live music nightly til late. It is good and very busy on Fri/Sat nights but is expensive tho so be warned! A gin and tonic was 9 euro's and a glass of wine was 8 euro's.

We flew to Dusseldorf Airport, got the skytrain to the train station and a train to Cologne. The Flandrischer Hof is a short taxi (approx 7 euros). Allow 35 mins on train to Cologne. Train was 63 euros return for 2 people.

Hope this is helpful, I would definitely go back to the Flandrischer Hof despite the need of an update. If you are going to the Christmas Markets or just want to party in Koln, this is an ideal place to stay.

Room Tip: Room 503 had a large windows, one being a very big bay you could stand in. Rooms on the front are n...
