Paid €200 on Priceline Name Your Own Price. Ok, not great. Similar quality rooms to a La Quinta, but a 3.5* lobby.

Room was too warm in Jan, even with Thermostat turned off. Room had heat only -- no AC or window opening. Double beds only -- no queens/kings -- and very low quality mattresses, linen and toiletries.

That said, it was clean & quiet, with a friendly service desk fluent in English. A long walk to the Cathedral, but an easy subway or cable car ride. Lots of shops and restaurants around, some bars.

we arrived late and check in staff were not that pleasant however we did get a room with a view of the Cologne Cathedral which was nice. The rooms are very drab though and old looking. It was clean but not very nice inside. The bathroom was quite small. It's a good hotel for sightseeing but that's about it. Apparenlty it gets a 4 star rating but I would say it's a 3 star

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. We were on the 9th floor (accessed via lifts) and had a lovely view of the cathedral and one of the christmas markets. Yes, we could hear the road but it's to be expected on a busy junction and it didn't bother us in the slightest. The fact it was on the busy junction meant that it was in a brilliant location for exploring Cologne so I won't grumble. The wifi was good and fast and there was also a computer room - very handy for us as hubby forgot the plug adaptor (and the hotel reception didn't have one) so we used the computer room to charge our iphones via USB socket.
We didn't use the bar or restaurant so cannot pass comment on that. The price of the breakfast put us off paying for it. There is a kettle and minifridge in the room so we were able to have a cuppa and fruit juice in the morning before taking a short stroll to get a much cheaper and equally nice breakfast from one of the local shops.
The staff were very friendly, the room was clean and the bed was enormous! If I had to pick fault in something i'd have to say that the huge and overly-soft bed pillows took some arranging to make comfortable.
The local chocolate museum was interesting in parts but in my mind not worth the 7.50euro per person entry fee. We planned to go to the Gestapo museum but unfortunately it was closed on the day we went (a monday) which was also our last day in Cologne so we couldn't go another day. The christmas markets were lovely and got us both in the festive spirit.
All in all a wonderful break!

In right location for Christmas markets as underground, tram and buses on doorstep and right across from Rudolplatz. Good restaurants within few minutes walk.
Due to good locations there is quite a bit of traffic noise, so ask for a high room.
Reception staff try and help but you may need some german to get by.
Overall good. Didn't try the food as not paying 20 euro each for breakfast when good bakers and starbucks near by. Car park quite expensive but probably normal for city.
