“Nice Hotel with Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed two nights in a clean, comfortable room. This is an elegant hotel but is somewhat dated. The location is the best, just steps the cathedral and the heart of Cologne. The train station is a short 5 minute walk (look for elevator to the right of the steps leading up to the cathedral and around the corner to the hotel). Plenty of good places to eat within a short walk.

“Perfect location but in need of refurbishment”

I feel this is a true reflection of Our stay in this very grand Hotel. The Hotel has undoubtedly the best location in Cologne, it is literally a few steps away from Cologne Cathederal, displaying magnificant views of this wonderful structure from the hotel bar & restaurant and some of the guest rooms. The staff were all very pleasant, helpful and welcoming. The main areas of the Hotel including reception, bar & restaurant were very nice with a warm & pleasant feeling about them. However, once you venture away from these areas you can see that parts of the Hotel have been somewhat neglected. The lift was panelled in wood but was damaged by scrapes and knocks & showed a fair amount of wear & tear, and the corridoor leading to our room had torn wallpaper, some carpet cut away from the floor & broken wall light fittings. Inside the room there was more evidence of outdated & tired decor, old fashioned & cheap looking curtains & bedding and thin bed duvets.
The bathroom was the most dissapointing with dull & murky looking marble effect tiles, rusty looking taps & bath/shower fixings, loose hand rails, chipped steel bath & outdated accessories. We were so dissapointed by the quality of the rooms which didn't really represent what we would ordinarily expect from a 5 star hotel. This was such a shame, because the rest of the hotel and services were very good. I think there needs to be some major investment in the decor and overall appearance of the guest rooms which can represent the quality of a 5 star hotel.

“Old fashioned hotel – good location”

“Grande Dame” in Cologne, almost perfect location in the center. Friendly staff, comfortable rooms if somewhat dated. Nice upgrade to a suite for SPG Platinum members plus an extra welcome drink. Good F&B facilities – although the restaurant was not particularly charming from a design point of few.

“Excellent hotel, excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I stayed at the Dom Hotel for a four nights last October. It was my second stay in the last couple of years. The hotel is elegant and very centrally located. There could actually hardly be any better spot to stay. It is right on the square (Platz) of the cathedral on which you have a splendid view from most room. You can sit right on the square at the bar/terasse in front of the hotel and watch people walk by.
Inside, the staff at the front desk has always been polite and very helpful. Check in was quick.
The rooms are large and well appointed, although maybe a bit dated. The washrooms are of marble and all was very clean.
There is on the ground level a nice little bar called Ustinoff and a very fine restaurant where we ate one evening. Food and service there were excellent and there is a nice view on the square.
All in all, I would not stay anywhere else in Köln.

Room Tip: If you can get an upgrade to a room with a terasse overlooking the Dom Platz, these are great.

I appreciate very much this hotel - old style but modern quality. It has more to offer than the usual modern hotel. On top of it is very well located in front of the Dom. Qulity - price is ratio is good.
