“The only place I'll stay in Koln!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012 via mobile

I find myself in Koln a lot for business. Our company books us in 3 to 4 star hotels but what I've realized is that the standards for a 3 star in the US is very differant than in the EU ( and other parts of the world). Suffice it to say, I've wound up in some horrible and uncomfortable hotels when traveling for work. Now, whenever I'm headed to Koln I insist on staying at the Azimut! The staff is friendly, it's clean, reliable, the rooms are fairly good and it's in a good location (steps away from the subway, a bakery, the Dom, a few decent restaurants and bars). Thehoel offers a pretty good breakfast buffet if you don't feel like venturing out and I've met clients in the hotel bar for afrw drinks. The only bad thing i can say is that the bedding/ pillows etc. Arent great by American standards... I'm used to staying in places with lux linens and fluffy pillows; I haven't found that in Koln yet. Nonetheless when I find myself in this unique German city, the Azimut is the only place I stay!

We come once a year to Cologne to attend the exhibition ISM
We closed two nights at the price of 250 euros per couple per night including breakfast
So apart from breakfast which was reasonable. Hospitality was a catastrophe
Year after many years at the Hotel Maritim decided to Azimuth
We received a nice room 431
No wireless internet, no cable in resption
not iron
No toothbrush, no hair conditioner, only two towels
In the room only two electrical outlets
For two days at 8 am No hot water in the shower
One receptionist who barely understand English
taxi 15 euro to cologne fair center

no Value for money is very disappointing, and there is no manager to talk
The hotel refused to compensate us !!!!!

Strange place - extremely quiet - didn't give the appearance of being a hotel at all. The room was more than reasonable but the service was very slow - especially at check out time. Close to the city - so a good base - but would probably try somewhere else next time.

“Good value for the location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

This hotel is right next to a train stop for the S-bahn and U-bahn. It is one stop after the Hauptbahnhof. It cost 2,50 EURO one way to get to the hotel from the main train station. The outside building looks like a warehouse. Once you get inside the lobby it is small but nice. The service from the front desk was good. We arrived at 13:00 and was able to check in right away without any hassle. Arrived to our room and was amazed how large the room was. The hallway inside the room was huge and the room had 2 closets and shelving. The bathroom had a glass door and was large for Europe. The TV is very small and there are 3 English channels. The bed was 2 twin beds which was not great for us but it worked for the 2 days we stayed there. We just push them together. The bed only has a comforter and fitted sheet there is no actual sheet. We were not too happy with that but luckily we brought an extra blanket so it helped. You are able to hear the trains since it is so close to the train stop when your in the room. The sound is not bad but you do hear the trains. Overall our stay was good. I would recommend this hotel due to location and price.

Room Tip: I was able to sleep during the night but if you are a light sleeper than I would ask for a room not...

“Not a 4 star hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Stayed in the hotel for one week (2 adults and 2 kids) in December, 2011. Although our names and arrival date were marked by travel agency beforehand (with remark - two neighboring rooms), on our arrival, it was midnight, we got rooms on different sides, thanks to God at the same floor. We managed to get neighboring rooms next evening. Actually that wasn't the biggest problem. It's my first time I saw that slippers and bathrobe were distributed at reception desk and only after a guest ask for it. That's really affecting spectacle to watch a guest, moving from ground floor to his room, with all that staff in his hands, even not packed in plastic bag. The other day we came back to the hotel late in the evening, quite exhausted after long excursion, and decided to have dinner in the hotel. BUT we were told that the hotel restaurant was closed. (It doesn't work in the evenings at all, only bar with frozen pizza and drinks). There are no restaurants close to the hotel except fast food. Bed-linen were not changed after 3 days (I'm afraid they would change them only after our departure if not mentioned by my wife). Almost every day our electronic keys were degaussed, in addition to all mentioned above, it was irritating.
Rooms are quite big, breakfast - not bad, personnel at the reception quaggy. Hotel is located close to railway station. It takes about 10-15 minutes to get DOM (Cologne Cathedral) by foot.
