The Eden Hotel is slightly tucked away but within short walking distance of just about everything of interest in central Bonn - the town centre, the railway/bus station and the River Rhine. And the hotel enjoys a delightful location opposite the University park. The hotel itself is an unremarkable building. The reception area is small in an open-plan arrangement with the breakfast area. In fact, there is very much an open-plan feel to this hotel - so much so that you can hear noise from the reception area (such as the telephone ringing) in your room. There is no lift, so luggage must be hauled up and down the stairs. I found the staff to be very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
I had only booked a single room but had requested a park view, so they kindly gave me a twin room at the front of the building. The room had a basic feel in terms of furnishings and decor. The TV was a small old-style set with only one English-language channel, and the various light fittings were a strange choice and also needed replacing. While the bed was OK comfort-wise, I have never before seen such a thin duvet. A nice feature of the room was the large windows that looked onto the park opposite, providing a pleasant sense of greenery. The shower-room was very cramped but functional and clean. However, I wasn't impressed with the wall-mounted soap dispensers, one of which looked dangerously close to the power outlet for the hairdryer. On the whole, the room provided an acceptable base for a short stay.
Breakfast was included in the room-rate and there was a fair choice of food. The dining area itself had a lovely view over the park through its full-length windows.
The real strength of this hotel is its pleasant and convenient location. In terms of quality, it is good but basic. So if you're looking for a no-frills base from which to explore Bonn and the Rhine Valley, this hotel could well fit the bill.
Great hotel right in the center. Get the airport bus 670 (3 an hour Monday - Friday, 2 an hour on Saturday and 1 an hour onSunday) to the central station, it takes about 20 minutes. The cost of the bus---- You have to buy a ticket for the machine next to the bus stop (6.20 Euro or 2.10 Euro per person), we were not sure which one to get so we bought ticket from the driver, who charged 6.20 Euro. On the way back to the Airport we bought a 2.10 Euro ticket for the machine which no one questioned. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from where the bus drops you off--- Walk back the way the bus came towards the Deutsch Bank, cross the road and go straight ahead, take the first right, follow the road you will see a Church on your left at the end (there should be a big field in front of you ) turn right, The hotel is just a little way down the road.
The hotel is on a small road, which is not busy and has 30 rooms. Ask for a room at the back as they have balcony's. Our room was big with a big window and a door on to the balcony. The bathroom was small and did not have a bath. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom. Very clean hotel with very helpfull staff.
Breakfast----Breakfast is served until 9.30am in a good size breakfast room ( well I say until 9.30am, that is what we got told when we checked in), on the 2nd day we did not go until 9.30 and there were people who came in after us. There was always a good selection---- 3 different cereal, yogurt, fruit, hams, 8 different types of cheese, pate, hot bread rolls, jams, chocolate spread, honey etc. The only thing they did not have was cakes and sweet pasty.
Free internet and safe boxes in the reception.
