The Eden Hotel is slightly tucked away but within short walking distance of just about everything of interest in central Bonn - the town centre, the railway/bus station and the River Rhine. And the hotel enjoys a delightful location opposite the University park. The hotel itself is an unremarkable building. The reception area is small in an open-plan arrangement with the breakfast area. In fact, there is very much an open-plan feel to this hotel - so much so that you can hear noise from the reception area (such as the telephone ringing) in your room. There is no lift, so luggage must be hauled up and down the stairs. I found the staff to be very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
I had only booked a single room but had requested a park view, so they kindly gave me a twin room at the front of the building. The room had a basic feel in terms of furnishings and decor. The TV was a small old-style set with only one English-language channel, and the various light fittings were a strange choice and also needed replacing. While the bed was OK comfort-wise, I have never before seen such a thin duvet. A nice feature of the room was the large windows that looked onto the park opposite, providing a pleasant sense of greenery. The shower-room was very cramped but functional and clean. However, I wasn't impressed with the wall-mounted soap dispensers, one of which looked dangerously close to the power outlet for the hairdryer. On the whole, the room provided an acceptable base for a short stay.
Breakfast was included in the room-rate and there was a fair choice of food. The dining area itself had a lovely view over the park through its full-length windows.
The real strength of this hotel is its pleasant and convenient location. In terms of quality, it is good but basic. So if you're looking for a no-frills base from which to explore Bonn and the Rhine Valley, this hotel could well fit the bill.
