Got a "last minute" deal on a very nice non-smoking, king-sized bed, "quiet" room at the Gunnewig. The staff were outstanding: helpful, nice, and always available. The hotel felt new, well appointed without being ostentatious, very clean. Bathroom was a mix between European and American. Big, but w/bidet, towel warmers. Only problem (minor) was the bed. Because I asked for a King (other choice was "double" which one never knows what one will get in Europe) and so we got essentially a combined twin set. Sadly, they did not have the gap covered, so "snuggling" was a bit difficult. Also, the mattresses were rather harder than I like, but we slept great, so it wasn't a huge issue. The other odd thing was the couch & chair in the room were miniature. Like for kids, rather than for adults. But we weren't in the room much, and they weren't uncomfortable, just smaller than normal. We got a great deal on the room, and enjoyed our trip, and I would definitely recommend the hotel, and stay there again, especially if I could get the fantastic price we got.

I simply like this hotel. For me, as a business traveler, it was nice change compared to usual 4* hotels of international chains. Gunnewig Bristol (don't mix with Gunnewig Resindence which is well behind) offers very old style furniture, central location 5 min from main railways station (but still very quiet) and relaxing atmosphere during breakfast.
I also noticed there is a swimming pool inside the hotel but unfortunately have not time to try.

Stayed here for a conference and thought it was a comfortable but expensive hotel. Due to a group rate breakfast was thankfully included or else it was very expensive to eat there. The lobby surpringly allows smoking. This is probably the only hotel I have been to in a long time that permits smoking in a public place. Hotel staff are a mix bag of people. Some friendly and some stiff. It is a short walk from the main station which is good. If I had to stay here on my own, I would chose a more economical hotel.

Business trip lasting a long weekend .. upon arrival day i could check in sooner than 3pm which helped me a great deal. Carpark usually has a day-fare, but since i didn't park my car longer than several hours (sleeping) i thought paying a full day's fare wasn't the thing .. i was offered a free parking ticket for the weekend due to the purpose of my trip, awesome service, this shows that they are there for the customer =)

The bar has excellent service and choice of beverages, same goes for the breakfast, diverse and very fulfilling.

After a long day/night working, coming back to the hotel, you are welcomed with a relaxing atmosphere, just the thing you want.
