I'd love to give this place a poor review, I mean it's number 16 on the rankings at time of writing, but if I'm honest I can't fault the place. I booked late and still got reasonable deal, I was there for one night on business, just passing through, so I'd have settled for less, but it turned out this was a good choice.
Location wise it's really central. On arrival at the central station (hauptbahnhof) the location seems a complete mystery (as are the locality maps outside the station), but as the lady at reception told me 'it's easy when you know how' and she was right. The hotel is minutes away from the station. Exit the station (there's only one side to exit from) and turn right, walk five minutes through the bus station, keep right through the tunnel (railway underpass) and the hotel is just in front of you, you can’t miss it. It is easy when you know how....
Of course being that close to the station might suggest a nightmare scenario, not here, the windows (plural, there’s two on in each frame!) are double glazed so that means four panes of glass, a fine view, little enough noise, and a good night’s sleep. The hotel overlooks a lovely park, and is also in easy reach of any train or bus you might need. The restaurant is a bit formal, the bar (a bit of an alcove) is even more so but you’re probably more likely to venture out in Bonn anyway so that’s no concern.
The room(s... can only comment on mine) are a bit dated, pre-loved might be an accurate description. They have seen use but are spotlessly clean and tidy. You’re not going to get crisp clean walls but you will get crisp clean linen and a spotless and functional bathroom with bath and shower. As an addition, the rooms are hugely spacious. No cabin fever here. Well stocked mini-bar (untouched by me!), good range of hangers, plenty of wardrobe space and a safe. Good range of TV stations, all operational and with most of what you might need. No wi-fi that I could find in the rooms or lobby though.
Breakfast was included in my rate; a buffet affair with a wide selection of options, good coffee all in a clean and efficient atmosphere.
Check out was efficient and friendly, just as good as check in. In my experience this was a fine hotel with lovely, warm multilingual staff and it comes highly recommended. All in all, out of the way enough for a good night’s sleep but only a stroll to the action if that’s what you’re after.
Room Tip: All seem well appointed, rooms to the front have multiple glazing and good soundproofing as a result...
