This hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Bonn, within walking distance of several great restaurants, one of which is literally next-door. The rooms are of a very high standard in terms of furniture and accessories (minibar, etc) but significantly smaller than I expected which could cause a problem when travelling with lots of luggage, not so much for a short business trip. The staff were very courteous and offered great service, kindly letting us use the conference room free of charge as the lobby was much too hot and not really suitable for working on a laptop during a hot summer's day.
This unfortunately brings me to two major 'gotchas' that you need to be aware of before choosing this hotel. I had assumed that a modern four-star hotel would naturally have AC - this is not the case! During a hot summer day many rooms, and the lobby, will get insufferably hot (although the conference was OK). I was hardly able to sleep due to the heat, opening the large windows did little to cool the room down but did invite the local wasps and a lot of noise from the cars and trams passing on the street below (the second gotcha). In the end I opted to close the windows which was like sleeping in an oven. Neither me nor my colleagues were able to get much sleep but the excellent breakfast buffet helped us regain some energy before the next day.
I would still recommend this hotel because I do not believe that my experience was very typical; any day of the year when it is not very hot outside the lack of AC would not be a severe issue unless you prefer your room very cool. The noise can be mitigated, as other reviewers suggest, by closing the windows or asking for a room in a better location. Then again, other hotels may offer the same quality of service with no such issues. As usual, it pays to do some research before booking.
