“A big hotel with plenty of convenience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

I have stayed here on several occasions over the years, and basically, it's same old same old. But that doesnt mean it's bad - in fact, to offer a consistently high quality of service is a sign of uncompromising standards. It is an expensive place - but the laws of supply and demand - justify it. The food is good, the rooms clean, conveniently located, and lots of various languages are always heard at the bar. I'm not a particularly big fan of their interior design, but hey if that's the biggest problem....

“Nothing worth staying at for. Food was average, Cleanliness was questionable, and service sucked”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

I did not enjoy my stay. The hotel is somewhat remote. There is nothing within walking distance. I ordered room service. They did not bring a spoon for the soup and when they eventually did 20 minutes later the soup was called. I also had asked for a cheese and tomatoe sandwitch, but I got a tuna and union sandwitch instead. Airconditioning in rooms did not work efficiently copelling us to keep the window open throughout the night.

“Nice business hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 April 2010

I stayed 3 nights at the Maritim on business travel. It is not centrally located and caters to the business traveler (not tourists) as it is next door to a government agency and other office buildings, and directly across from a train station. So if you're in Bonn to see the sights, stay in city central. All in all, the hotel is nice, rooms are spacious and the restaurant features a nice breakfast buffet. Staff at the front desk are efficient and helpful. Also, there is a fitness center, pool and spa area. Be prepared if you're thinking of using the sauna as the Germans are not shy about showing skin and there is no separate dressing/shower areas for men and women. Because the hotel is pricey and out of the way so I wouldn't choose to stay here for leisure travel but it was great for business. So no complaints

“Good room but located in the middle of nowhere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2009

I stayed for 2 nights, selected the hotel because it was next to Godesberger Allee. The Maritim is located in a business district with no restaurant or shopping opportunity besides a gas station nearby which may be - and for me was - a negative aspect. The hotel does not offer free WLAN internet but T-Mobile hotspot service is available for 29 euro a month.

The room itself was large for a single room. Decor is very dark and old-styled but in good shape. There was no noise from other rooms but a Tram track is build directly below the hotel. It didn't disturb me but some people may be bothered by the noise every 10 to 20 minutes when a train passes.

Breakfast was very good with a broad selection of food available. Although it was very crowded staff was always able to clean up tables and assist.

To sum up the hotel can be recommended if you stay for business especially considering the location. Leisure travelers who want to discover Bonn should definitely look for another hotel. Accordingly the entire hotel is nothing special but offered a good and constant level of service to me.

“A climate change conference legend, but why does anyone else stay here?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2009

The Maritim- home to so many climate change conferences that it induces Stockholm Syndrome in regular visitors- check out our Facebook group... Great place for a 'back to the 80s' convention.

The good: Great buffet breakfast (wide choice of German breads, cold cuts, wurst, herrings, hot stuff, pastries, fruit...). Room service breakfast good. Excellent, if pricey, cocktails (some of the best Caipirinhas anywhere) and good beer. Same building as the conference halls, so you can nap between all-night meetings.

The bad: Large, but dark rooms (90 % have only one small window). Small swimming pool with surreal fresco of a woman in a dressing gown and a naked child. More nudity in the mixed sauna- not for the faint hearted. Lousy unchanging limited room service menu (except breakfast which is good). Inadequate staff number who seem surprised that the hotel fills up during conferences with guests who actually want to order food. The key cards (which also operate the lifts) never work for more than 48 hours.

The ugly: The curtains haven't changed in 2 decades (one colleague who stays in the same room each stay counts the increasing number of moth holes - like the night sky.) Some rooms are directly over the power lines of the tram track that runs under the hotel. Internet a whopping 15 Euros noon-noon. Mile-long corridors like something out of The Shining.

Survival tips:
- Insist on a 6th floor room with a balcony (20 EUR extra), or a part-suite with large windows, or stay somewhere else.
- Subscribe to t-mobile wifi (29 EUR for a month compared with the Maritim's wired 15 EUR per day) - may not be accessible without a balcony room- check your coverage where you intend to use it!
- Room service breakfast is good value if you specify what you want, and is served until 1300
- Get outdoors- run in the Park, walk along the Rhein, hire a bike (from the hauptbahnhof), take a train to Cologne
- Always eat out: there are good restaurants nearby including Tao (fusion- 5 mins walk), Jasmin (Chinese- 5 mins walk), Rohmuehle (15 mins by taxi- great terrace on the Rhein, and jazz), the fancy Italian in the Koenighof Hotel (15 mins by taxi), Bastei (30 mins walk along the Rhein or 10 mins by taxi), and many great places in Bad Godesberg.
- Avoid the sauna unless you're comfortable with mixed sex nudity.
- The Piano Bar - dodgy 80's music, but everyone who's anyone passes through.
