“Worn-down and overpriced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

The rooms seem to not have been renovated since the mid 80ies. Very old-fashioned decoration. Rooms to the west are very noisy - you can hear the traffic and the tram even whe the windows are closed.
Poor value for the price. The only pros are the friendly and helpful staff and the good location - if you are on a conference in the hotel or need to go to the southern quarter for business. About 10 minutes to the old town by tram or taxi.
Service at the bar is rather disappointing. The quality of the draught beer is very poor.

“A lesson in customer disservice”

It is difficult to get a room in a business hotel in Bonn, and Maritim takes advantage of the short supply. It is located in the middle of a government district, far from the city center or any lively area. But the real challenge is the attitude of their staff. We had a reservation for 3 weeks from Monday to Friday, and every week we had different room rate, sometimes the breakfast was included in the room rate, sometimes it was not. When asking about the rational of changing rate, the staff had not explanation. In the last week, when learned that a higher room rate will be charged than previously agreed, I wanted to cancel the booking. The staff denied this, as per their opinion I can not cancel the booking, only the agency can do that, who made the booking (the booking was for my name).

Above this all, they charge a ridiculous price for the cable internet, and the also available t-mobile wifi is terribly slow and unreliable.

So if you want to spend a lot of money to money for an average room, served by bleak staff and enjoy the feeling of a prison, go ahead and make a booking at Maritim Bonn, if not, you probably want to elsewhere.

“Ok service, nice rooms, excellent breakfast buffet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

The staff were not overly friendly but definitely friendly enough. The rooms were outdated (brown) but large and clean and more than adequate with a large desk, minibar and even two seats with a small table. The breakfast buffet is in one word amazing! Everything from scrambled, baked and boiled eggs, sausages and bacon, to cereals, several types of yoghurts, fresh fruits, etc. There were even several types of fish to choose from should you desire them early in the morning. (I didn't)

I don't go to a hotel to spend a lot of time in my room and look at the furniture and wallpaper, or have a lot of interaction with the staff apart from at check-in, -out, and breakfast. So I don't really understand some of the bad reviews this hotel has gotten. As far as I'm concerned our stay was satisfactory, we would go there again, and recommend this hotel to our friends.

Room Tip: Don't forget to mention "smoking" or "non-smoking" while booking.

“Probably a nice hotel in 1980!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011 via mobile

I have stayed at this hotel many times for business. It is a good location for a couple of major corporations headquartered nearby. The staff are generally not very friendly. The decorating is very outdated. The whole place has a cold "convention hotel" feel to it. The breakfast buffet is good but the restaurant layout has you constantly running into other guests while navigating it.

“Rude, arrogant, bad service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

On July 12th, I checked-in with a group of 7 people at around 8pm. It turned out, the hotel's default is to assign smoking rooms, if no specific comment is made in the reservation. (Germany has a non-smoking ban since ~2008). This was not even mentioned to us during check-in, we had the pleasure of discovering the smokey rooms ourselves. No non-smoking rooms were available. When we asked whether the hotel could help us find alternative accomodation elsewhere, we were told "you won't find any accomodation for tonight anywhere in Bonn at this time".
After checking with our company's 24h travel support line, we were able to reserve 7 non-smoking rooms at the nearby Hilton Hotel. When mentioning our intention to leave, the hotel was suddenly able to identify 3 non-smoking rooms, which my colleagues took to avoid being charged a 90% penalty fee in case of late cancellation. However, they refused to let the remaining 4 people leave without charging them 90% of the room rate.

The next morning when resuming our meeting activities in the Maritim's conference room (booked and paid for 1.5 days), we were able to negotiate that only 2 people would be charged the 90% room rate. However at the same time we were notified that the hotel refused to cancel our lunch order, and charged us the full pice instead (45.- Euro/65.- USD p.P.).

While the hotel acted within its legal rights, I would have expected better service, especially as we had a whole package booked (conference room, dinner, lunch, rooms).
