A ten minute walk from the station (turn right, out of the main entrance) and simply walk straight down the main High Street (Bahnhof Strasse). You’ll need to cross a few roads (best to take the underpass but aim for the left exit) and head towards the Rathaus (town hall). Next to that is the theatre and on the next corner you’ll be at your destination, the Arcadia Hotel.
A quick registration form to check in (no need to show your passport) and you’ll be free to view your room, in our case on the 4th floor, but they have two lifts. They may sound a bit creaky, but they work fine.
NOTE: They do offer one floor for smoking guests, the 3rd, but it’s best to request this at the time of reservation if required.
The twin bed room was very big, modern, light and extremely comfortable. The beds are good, additional pillows can be requested and will be brought up instantly and the bathroom was well furnished.
The TV only had local channels with the exception of CNN but there was a mini bar, access to wi-fi (pay as you go at extortionate rates- use the free computer in the foyer for your email needs) and you’ll get a bath tub and shower in the bathroom, plus a hairdryer and extra power point for shaver/toothbrush . Both rooms were exceptionally clean.
There is no in-room safe or air-con but we found the room very warm so you’ll need to open the window if necessary.
Cost for the night was 59€ and we stayed four nights, thoroughly enjoying the experience as the location is quite excellent with the Old Town a few minutes’ walk away.
Finally, what’s all this nonsense about rude staff? They were exemplary in manner and professionalism. Perhaps since the takeover (no idea when) things have improved because we were treated with courtesy, respect and everyone was extremely helpful.
