“Nice, location not good though”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

We spent a night here whilst travelling around viewing christmas markets, however the walk from this hotel was too far and not 20mins as advertised- also a very confusing winding walk through town centres so easy to get lost and eventually as it was raining we'd walked round in circles saw only a few stalls werent impressed and walked for what seemed like forever back.

Parking right on site- brilliant price! and all day even after checkout.

Minibar and actual bar extortionate rates with breakfast 16 euros a head and being quoted 8 euros for a bottle of water!! There was tea making facilities in the room though.

We were in room 227, it was much better than expected and actually very very nice, good value! The bed was comfortable and lots of modern convineances like a good flat screen TV.

We didnt have breakfast as it was too expensive but check in was 24 hours so that was brilliant for us as checked in at 10pm ish. Wifi was 3 euros for an hour, but once youd logged in thats it, you couldnt use some now, some later which is unfortunate.

Modern, bright and clean, i would definatly recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the stairs smell more of smoke in hallway, but further down are fine.

“Very Average, Poor Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

Spent two nights in a "privilege" double room. Very average hotel, with clean but dreary rooms. Hotel staff was friendly. The walk into the Dom (cathedral) area is 25-30 minutes at a fairly quick speed (definitely NOT the 10-15 minutes advertised). There is a bus you can take for 1 euro each way. The Carolus Thermen is only about 10 minute walk away and well worth a visit.

The "privilege" rooms give you free wi-fi and parking, plus double points, some cheap (not very comfortable) bathrobes and use of the minibar (1 beer, 1 coke, 1 fanta, 1 water, 1 orange juice). Not sure that it's worth it, but that is all they had left when I booked.

Breakfast was mediocre, particularly for 16euro per person. The buffet had all of the basics, with scrambled "eggs" (powdered), bacon, sausage, some cheese and meat, frozen berries and yogurt (plus a limited selection of breads). I would recommend eating outside of the hotel for half the price, but of course you'll have to drive or walk 30 minutes into town as there is virtually nothing in the direct area.

The poor location of the hotel (relative to the tourist center) is reflected in the price, which was about 50% less than other hotels more central - so no complaints there.

Overall, I would rate a "skip" unless you have no other viable option.

“Well satisfied”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

This hotel is well placed if you are driving back to the UK, giving a comfortable 3.5 hour drive to Calais the next morning. Breakfast was good and in the evening there was no problem doing an omlette which my companion fancied even though it was not on the menu.
Only criticism is that the beds are very firm - Good for you no doubt but not ideal if you are used to a softer one at home !

“Aachen”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Comfortable hotel. Very good buffet meal in the evening. Breakfast good but a little expensive. Also had to pay for internet and parking. Bedroom clean and comfortable.
Could leave car in car park and walk in to town
