I have stayed at this excellent 4 star business hotel every July over the past 3 years when visiting clients in Rostock. Apart from being within walking distance to my client's office it is also very centrally located to the waterfront restaurants and to shopping in and off the Town Square just across. The hotel itself has an excellent breakfast spread and a restaurant with wine bar that are second to none in Rostock. Rooms are ver well kept and furnished; my only gripe is that they are not air-conditioned. Last July I stayed during the 'heat wave' when parts of Germany were boiling at 38C and those were my most uncomfortable nights in a very long time. Otherwise its 2 thumbs up ...

This hotel is on the edge of the Market Square. It's a superior hotel in every sense of the word. Nice entrance, very helpful and friendly staff. Luxurious feel. Rooms are well decorated and spotlessly clean. Quite large as well.
Being a superior hotel breakfast is very expensive. Having said that all the products are fresh, more than sufficient and lots of choice. It all looks very appetizing. If you don't want to pay € 18,- for a breakfast, walk to the market square where you'll find the first bakery which has breakfasts on offer for much less. If you walk into the main shopping street there are more.
You can park in a paking garage under the hotel, so not far to walk when travelling by car. Aske the hotel for directions before you travel and they'll expain how to get there. Lots of one way streets around...
One little nag.... at the moment buildingworks are going on next to the hotel. These might wake you up in the morning, but I'm sure they will not be for ever and it didn't put us off at all!!

The Steigenberger Hotel Sonne at Rostock is a sheer pleasure to be in - it is located in central Rostock adjacent to Town Hall overlooking the open city square. The rooms are spacious and equipped with a minibar, ironing stand, safe, large wardrobes and thoughtful extras like coat-brush,shoe-shine et al. The cleanliness in the room and bathrooms are exemplary.

And the breakfast is a veritable spread- not just the typical cold meats and salads- they include scrambled eggs, mince balls, bacon, and an assortment of juices, fresh fruits, yoghurts,cheese,salami,fish ,bakery, condiments, dry fruits. Even the tea selection includes Darjeeling, Assam and green teas.

The restaurant serves a tapas menu in the evenings, which is average - but the wine selection is quite good. And, it has a cosy bar where one can indulge in a selection of best Havana cigars with a night-cap ...

Yes, I long to be at Rostock and at Sonne again...

This hotel is located right next to the main square in Rostock and it's a perfect stop for one or two nights.
