“very good, modern, clean hotel, top location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2010

The hotel is located at downtown of Rostock. Only a few meters away you can find the pedestrian area with shops and restaurants (including mc donalds, burgerking and pizza hut).
The hotel is very modern with two elevators in the front and direct access to the shopping mall with another elevator. may it's not easy to find the way to it...
The rooms are also very modern and clean. Nice furnitures and queen beds. You get a big bottle of water at the room and a welcome drink at the bar for free... nice to have. Shower and bathtub is combined and the bathroom seems large with big mirrors.
Wifi is not for free. Parking neither, because you have to park your car at the car park of the shopping mall. But it is cheaper if you are a hotel guest. There are more elevators, so watch out for the right one...

“Excellent - Highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2010

My stay was very pleasant. Had excellent service and value for the money. Will stay there again when I return. Breakfast (included with the room) was outstanding - very wide selection and superb quality.

“small, chic and cool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2009

Lovely stay, although the lobby is smaller than other penta's I stayed in...has the same feel and I really like the decor. I was lucky enough to have my boyfriend with me and he enjoys the place as well, whcih was nice as well. The food is nothing wow, but it is nice and well priced...great location as well.

“Penta - spacious, modern and chic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2008

I'm staying at the Pena Rostock for 4 nights on business.
The picture on the website shows an old fashioned German ginger bread style, However, that is the rear of the hotel that the restaurant faces out on.

The front of the hotel is ultra-modern. The check-in staff was very friendly and spoke English.

The lobby area has just been re-decorated to be a lounge, library and snookers room. It's really cozy and welcoming.

2 glass elevators service 4 floors.
My room was on the 4th floor and portions of the hallway overlook the indoor shopping mall.

What a surprise - my room was enormous with 20ft tall ceilings. You could actually have a Yoga class in my room with 8 people!!

The decoration is very modern and quirky.
Wireless interenet was 5 Eu/day

A medium sized hotel gym is available + sauna and tanning bed
Breakfast selection was good and fresh
Parking was secure in the basement

The GOOD
- Enormous room with great ambience
- Huge windows in the room
- Very clean
- Samsung flat screen TV with many channels (2 English, CNN and SKY) + some Italian and French channels.
- Large work desk with a phone on the desk
- All room lighting controllable from the bed
- Large bathroom with fluffy towels
- Water temperature and pressure excellent (rain shower type nozzle)
- The room seemed very soundproof

OK, but room for Improvement
- No min-bar or fridge in room
- Only amenities in bathroom were soaps and creams (no file, shower cap etc)
- Evening meal in the bar / lounge area was OK, but not spectacular - suggest exploring the neighbourhood for alternatives

CONCLUSION
- A very good hotel that is made great by the super room

  • Liked — Enormous modern clean room
  • Disliked — Needs a mini-fridge

“Fine place, but don't eat there”

Based on a two-night stay with my wife for pleasure (visiting the International Garden Show) we had the impression of a very good and well run hotel. We were accommodated in a very spacious room, probably one of the best, and quite reasonably priced, too. Clean all over, nice and helpful staff, a rather costly subterranean parking (22 Euros for 42 hours' parking) with direct lift to all floors. High security with electronic, card-based locks at all transitions. Excellent! BUT: Website brags of an excellent fish restaurant. The reality for us was: a very limited choice in asparagus-dishes in spite of high season. But their asparagus suds tasted fine. We had a very fine, dry white wine, as we tried the Rostock Fish Plate, which was recommended but proved to be potato slices burned to black crisps, carrots, green peppers, and squash, all boiled to a mash, and 5 different fish medaillons, all overcooked to a dry, tasteless, cardboard consistency. Without a doubt the worst restaurant meal we have experienced in years, and only my wife's reluctance to create a scene prevented us from returning it with a scream. Dessert became unrealistic after waiting for another 20+ minutes to see the menu, brought by a not very attentive waitress. A harbourside restaurant gave us the hoped-for gourmet pleasures the next night, and somewhat cheaper, too, so it can be done in Rostock. Otto Grove Senior consultant physician
