The Romantic Hotel Walhalla is great. Over 400 years old and located in the “old city” All the things you expect to find in an old European town, cobblestones buildings hundreds of years old, steeped in history.. fabulous.
I was lucky enough to get an upstairs room in the original building. Solid timber beams, white washed walls and ceiling, magnificent bathroom with superb fittings and accessories. Being fairly tall, I had to watch not to bang my head but really cosy. A couple of windows opening out on to the street in front of the hotel which provided a great view of the comings and goings of the locals and the tourists.
The restaraunt, “David” for dinner in the evening was the highest standard, for food, beverages and service. Similarly, the breakfast was first class a buffet with delicious fresh ground coffee and a wide selection of breads, pastries and local cheese.
As I was driving on this trip finding the hotel and the car parking arrangements were interesting. Being in the old city the way to the hotel was very narrow and windy with pedestrians and bicycles everywhere so great care is required. The actual car park is beneath the hotel and due to the high number in the hotel the staff were more than happy to park the car and get it out in the morning. Saturday morning there is a open market a few hundred metres from the hotel with tons of local products, flowers, meat cheese you name it everything and a great atmosphere.. certainly could have stayed longer.
