I have waited to post this review as i was waiting on the outcome of a complaint which has now been ( very professionally) resolved.
First the positives, this was my first experience of the Mercure brand and it was a positive one, very nice, clean, well maintained rooms with very comfortable bed, good temperature controls and double glazing added up to a very good night's sleep. Nice bathroom and excellant shower plus free minibar and a quality TV made this a 5 star rating room. Breakfast quality was also good, again a 5 star standard and very plentiful.
Hotel public areas are very well decorated and well maintained, lobby area is comfortable and well layed out. Housekeeping is very good and very friendly staff, a smile and a hello every day and every time i encountered them.
Location is good, about 10 mins walk from centre of town and the same to train/bus connections, the walk into/back from town is not through the nicest part of town although i didn't feel particularly unsafe, just a little uneasy, was glad i had a car when returning very late at night. Car Park is underground under the hotel, very safe,secure, well lit and good rate.
The negatives, some of the rudest reception and restaurant staff i have ever experienced, a problem with the hotel's reservation system led to be being charged for breakfast, WIFI, newspaper and mini bar ( all clearly included in my rate). The receptionist and waiter virtually called me a liar when i challeged the charges, told me it PROVE it if i thought i was right, and when i did, said i had been LUCKY!!!!.
WIFI signal is weak, intermittant and the login takes ages.
Anyway, the complaint i susequently made was very very professonally handled by the hotel and i would definatley return to this hotel on my next visit.
