“Ideal for business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Ok, if you're choosing to stay here it's 99% likely that it's going to be for business- it's not like you can walk out of the hotel and stroll into town.

Quick review:

Cleanliness: I'm particularly picky when I enter the room. i check the mattress and the bathroom (behind the toilet). my hotel room was spotless. no cracks in the tiles, no dirt or dust balls.

Amenities: yes it's true, the TV screens in the rooms are smaller than your average laptop. They've got all the important channels though.
Wireless internet was not free, which i find unacceptable.
Mattresses could be a tad thicker.

Staff: Extremely friendly and helpful. 'nuff said.

Food: My favorite part. They serve traditional German cuisine like 'Schnitzel' but you can also get yourself a delicious salad or soup. I've stayed in many hotels of this sort, and the food was actually very good here in terms of taste as well as quality. I actually looked forward to eating there at the end of my day. Note: i've lived in Asia, the US, the middle east and europe, and I'm somewhat spoilt when it comes to eating good quality food. you can definitely enjoy a meal or two in this restaurant, don't be shy. their breakfast selection is also up to par. everything from sweet cereal to muesli, soft boiled and scrambled eggs with bacon, and a selection of breads (not just plain white bread) and cold cuts.

after staying here for 7 days i can safely say that i wouldn't use this Hotel if i was vacationing in Brunswick. However, if you're on a business trip or need a night's rest and are being economical, then this is a good choice.

Dear Rahmies,
thank you for rating your stay at GHOTEL hotel & living Braunschweig! We are delighted that you chose to stay at one of our hotels and we are happy to hear that you liked the service of our employees - we will be happy to pass it on to them.
Please allow us to give you some information, which might be useful for your next stay at GHOTEL hotel & living Braunschweig: In the lobby of the hotel you can find a Netbook with complimentary Wi-Fi. However, this Notebook had been stolen in January. Therefore we couldn’t offer this service during a short period of time and we would like to apologize for any inconveniences, which aroused from this situation. Regarding the access to Brunswick city centre, we recommend to go there by bus or tram. Both stops are only 200 m away from GHOTEL hotel & living Braunschweig. The city centre is 3 km away from the hotel and the travelling time respectively short.
We would be happy to welcome you again at one of our hotels!
Kind regards,

“Cheap and basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2010

Best described as an army barracks-functional with no frills. Consists of two dormitory style blocks linked by a glass unheated tunnel, not good in minus 1. Rooms are small, clean and warm. Small restaurant, breakfast hardly worth bothering, limited would be a fair description. Evening meal from 1800 is good for the captive audience (hotel is in a fairly basic residential area ie not a cafe in sight). The restaurant is closed in the afternoon so it is not possible to get a coffee or any nourishment (even vending machines are missing) until 1800.
Wireless internet is available for 12 euros a day, 3 days costs 36 euros but 5 days is 29, figure that one out. If everybody stopped staying at these places which rip you off for the internet they would abandon this robbery. Unfortunately I was a late booker and desperate.
The plus side is that the staff throughout are very pleasant, it's a 5 minute walk to the bus stop and then 15 minutes into town.
Conclusion - it's cheap and cheerful or maybe it's just cheap.

“Oh so basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2006

I reserved a room at the Ghotel at the last minute when no other hotel in downtown Braunschweig had availability.

The Ghotel is in the Heidberg distrct of Braunschweig (south part). Ghotel is run by Deutsche Post (i.e. the German post office). The miniature soaps & shampoo bottles all have the Deutsche Post logo on it.

I stayed in a single room (50 euros a night from Expedia, although the sign outside the hotel says it may be ~45 euros or so. The room was VERY SMALL (or "intimate", in real estate terms). The bed was not much bigger than a couch. One pillow. There was a comforter on the bed and a heavier wool blanket in the hallway closet space. Don't forget to lock your door with your room key if you're inside or out (i.e. the doors don't lock unless you use the key to lock them). The rooms are equipped with direct dial numbers, so people can call in without going through a hotel operator.

The rooms are drafty if there's a breeze outside. You'll hear the whisling of the wind as it blows under the doors and around various places in the building. I stayed here in December and while the heat was turned on in Haus A (the front building), the building where I stayed (Haus B) the radiators were off. At least this December was mild.

As far as I can tell, all rates should include breakfast buffet (although the front office girl - a new hire - made a big deal of checking her notes to see if I was allowed to get the breakfast). There's a little cafe within the hotel where breakfast is served, and they also sell a (very inexpensive) lunch there as well. I didn't try any lunch dishes, but the buffet consisted of sliced meats, cheese, cereal, yogurt (plain), bread rolls, jams & Nutella, coffee & tea, juice & hard boiled eggs. Inexplicably, the cafe closes in the afternoon and isn't open for dinner.

The Dresdenstrasse bus stop is a 2 minute walk away (two bus lines come by regularly, although they stop running around 7 p.m.). The more frequently and later running bus "411" stops at the "Klinikum" bus stop, but that's at least a half KM walk (15 minutes) away.

My impression of it is that it looks like a European dormitory. There are even a few glass fronted (to the hallway) workroom type rooms on the guest floors.

Pros: it seemed really cheap to me.

Cons: it seemed really cheap to me.

  • Liked — cheap & efficient
  • Disliked — cheap & efficient
  • Tips/Secrets — best to come in a car or be ready to bus it... all the good stuff is not in walkable distance
