We arrived in Rudesheim after driving from Rothenburg. It was a nice drive, not long and pretty easy going. Driving along the Rhine as you approach Rudesheim is lovely. The river is wider than we expected and there were plenty of river boats and barges floating along..
The Lindenwirt is off the main street so no view of the Rhine, but this turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Because the Lindenwirt is kind of hidden among the back streets the train noise is muffled and we barely noticed it. The train comes through town (along the Rhine - must be a lovely train ride) often and it is very noisy. We sat at a cafe and had drinks and lunch all the while knowing that any minute that train would be rolling through, sure enough, at least twice during lunch. I believe I would have had a hard time sleeping 60 feet from the tracks. Our room was a standard double and we paid 110 Euro, breakfast included. Two beds (the couch arms folded out to create another bedding option, interesting) were a little tired but the room was clean and the bath spotless. A small window looked out over a nice residential area with laundry drying and children playing. The breakfast was typical; meats, cheeses, solf-boiled eggs (yum), yogurt, dried fruits, tomatos, oatmeal, coffee, tea, juices, milk. Plenty of food and good quality. We did see a large boar being brought in for dinner though had other plans that night.
Overall, I would say this hotel was neither fabulous nor dismal. It was a satisfactory place to stay and there were plenty of happy people around at breakfast. There is a courtyard to park your car where you will also find their famous "Wine Barrel Rooms". We took a peek in and thought it would be fun (maybe) to stay a night, but boy were they tiny, and I mean tiny.
