“A welcome port in the storm for a weary traveller”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

I came to this hotel tired and weary with a bad cold and left feeling better. The location is a five minute walk from the main train station. I was checked in within moments and on my way up to the room. Two minutes later I am brewing some delicious tea in my room with the hot water maker. The rooms are very nicely appointed and the bathroom was spotless and modern with an excellent shower. The flat screen tv was particularly nice and the choice of channels was the best I have seen in Germany. Free Wifi was also a definite plus. Breakfast was fantastic. There was a great variety of delicious breads as well as fresh juices, eggs, bacon, sausage etc. It was far above and beyond the norm and service was exceptional as well. I felt very well taken care of at this hotel and would not hesitate to stay there again.

“Nice hotel with perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

The hotel is situated right in the center of Kassel. Best spot for shoppers since it is situated in a shopping mall. There is enough parking available under the mall. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpfull. Although the rooms are a bid outdated they have every modern comfort (also coffee and minibar). The breakfast buffet has a large variety to choose from, even cake. The only downside to this hotel is that the restaurant (where the breakfast is served) is located not in the hotel itself but in the shopping mall.
Overall a very good choice to explore the city.

“Scary fire alarm”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

I really wanted to write a nice review of this hotel. The staff were very friendly, the breakfast was standard but well presented and the rooms were clean and comfortable. However, it was really let down by an evident lack of experienced leadership and attention to detail, which culminated in a very scary night with a (false) fire alarm. There were a bunch of us from a conference staying at the hotel and almost every room had some minor and uncorrected fault. In my case, it was the plug in the outlet from the hand basin in the bathroom that leaked so that the taps had to run all the time to keep the bowl filled. A couple of colleagues could not access the (free) wireless internet from their rooms, despite its advertised availability throughout. These flaws came together on the night of the fire alarm, which the staff clearly determined was false - so they focussed on the technician who had been called to fix it rather than on ensuring that the guests knew whether or not they should evacuate the hotel. In a real emergency, precious time would have been lost by people milling around in corridors and stairwells trying to decide what to do. Even those of us who got as far as the lobby found no-one stepping up to take charge. The evacuation instructions over the automatic warning system were also, bizarrely, entirely in French. OK, so Accor are a French-owned chain but this is a hotel in the middle of Germany with an international clientele. As it happens, my French is quite good - but I didn't expect to depend on it in this kind of emergency and my US colleagues were just totally bemused. All in all, I think this hotel is a fire disaster waiting to happen - except that the construction standards seemed pretty robust! The automatic warning is probably a corporate issue and the lack of leadership from the staff probably reflects their relative youth and possibly a weakness in company training - but it does make me less enthusiastic about Accor hotels in general, which I have been using a lot lately.

By the way, if you think that dinner in the hotel restaurant is dull, don't think you will do any better elsewhere in Kassel...

“Great experience and we will definitely have the same next time!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

Hotel Mercury Kassel:
I stayed at this hotel with my wife and two children aged 1 and 4. I had booked the hotel through the hotel groups homepage where I had indicated that I would arrive with the two children.
When arriving at the hotel by car we used the parking underneath the hotel. The hotel is situated in a shopping arcade and they share the parking, so there is plenty of space and it was very easy to get from car to lobby. Only slight challenge was that you would need to change elevator in the lobby in order to get to the floors with hotel rooms. The hotel is very well located! It’s a 2 minute walk to the central square and the walking street which has loads of shops.
The room was just fine and the staff had prepared a baby cod for our youngest child and a separate bed for the 4 year old. There was even a toy in the baby cod and a small gift box for our 4 year old with soap and lotion. Everything was nice and clean, however we would have liked to have had more than one English speaking TV channel. This was Bloomberg. They had tons of German channels, some French and some Arabic. Another slight concern was that we could not get the wifi to work, but to be fair we did not raise the issue to the front desk, as we did not need it badly.
In the morning we had breakfast at the restaurant which is used as the hotel restaurant. This is located in the shopping arcade and the breakfast (priced at €16,50) was super! There was a lot to choose from and everything was very fresh and tasty. All the hot selections were prepared all the time instead of preparing a big batch and leaving in some heating arrangement. They did not charge us for the food the children ate even though our 4 year old had quite a bit to eat.
Great experience and I will definitely have the same if I’m going to Kassel again. Nice town by the way.
