Well kept hotel (Goethe stay there in the 1700's) in Fulda just an hour north of Frankfurt. Hotel has been in the family since 1904 and that's lucky for us because today the owners Renatta and Maria are there to insure that you will simply have the most delightful time in Fulda and environs. The food in their hotel restaurant is very German traditional and delicious; the service in their restaurant was superb and friendly. Come for the lodging and the food, but don't miss the opportunity to engage with the owners. If you are so lucky as to be able to sit down with them for drinks after dinner they will regale you with their worldly stories. Be so clumsy as to mention that you have stayed at The Oriental? Renatta always eats with Kurt Wachweitel, the former GM. Mention Wagner's Ring and Maria will tell you how often the Bayreuth Festival has not sold out and how great The National Theater production in Mannheim will be this Spring. They sent us up to the glider/parasailing port just 20k to the east where we spent a fantastic day watching some eagles sore and some wet parakeets try to get off of the ground. Came back and had dinner, then drinks with "the girls" to make our evening perfect. Guest services at the Fairmont in Hamburg had sent us. He was right. I thanked him by email.
