“Perfect setting for a short getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

The hotel is perfectly situated in Fulda and is only a few minute walk through the baroque gardens to the city center. It is a 10 minute cab ride to the train station.

The staff is attentive and courteous. I personally found the room (we had reserved a Comfort plus room with twin beds) small, altough the room did open onto a very nice size balcony. The rooms open onto an atrium and are served by one elevator. Noise was not an issue. Our room also had a small and outdated (read non-flatscreen) television. The bathroom was decent sized and had a very functional tub wih a hand-shower.

If you stay here you have to go down to the main restaurant in the cellar and enjoy an evening meal. Wow! The setting is wonderful, the food devine and the service top notch. Try to get a reasonable rate where breakfast is included, as the breakfast is so good you will be able to skip lunch.

The pool is also worth visiting and the facilities are off of the lobby and very inviting.

Fulda is only an hour by train or car from Frankfurt and the ideal stop after a long international trip. This hotel is a gem, but can be a bit pricey if you only look at the room-to-rate ratio but when you add inthe extras it becomes a price preformer.

Just one last note. This hotel does not have air conditioning and there were no mesh screens on our windows, which was not an issue in November but beware if you stay in the summer!

Room Tip: Try for a corner room

“Good location, superb breakfast room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

The hotel is next to the baroque gardens of Fulda. Rooms are nice, decently large and well furnished. Sparkling-glittering bathroom (literally blinding shiny).

The breakfast room is jaw-dropping, in a baroque room built around 1720s. It's hard to make any decent picutres of the tromp l'oeil painting of the ceiling, especially with a phone camera, so use your imagination.

At the reception the staff was mixed (the evening chaps were decidedly helpful but cold-to-grumpy, the morning lady smiling even if she had all hands full). The breakfast restaurant is definitely understaffed, which induces delays in serving coffee, or freeing up a table, but it is still worth to breakfast there.

In the lobby there's a PC with free Internet and able to print on a laser b/w, should you need to. The bar has a cozy atmosphere and a matching bartender.

Room Tip: The rooms on the corners (I had 114) are more shielded from the open atrium

“Right in the center - Barock age elegance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2011

This hotel is utilizing the old Orangerie of the castle for banquet Hall and breakfast room. It is very centrally placet with excellent parking facilities, very nice rooms with good bahtrooms.
The breakfast is overwhelming. The restaurant in the basement is worthy of as many stars as you can think of.

“Lovely hotel, but it skins you alive with greedy Internet charges”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

Fulda is easy to reach from most parts of Germany and its history is interesting -- convenient for the businessman, then, with something for the trailing spouse, and many smaller conferences accordingly are held there. The Maritim directs its attentions, I believe, to this conference trade. Maybe that's why Internet access through the hotel connection costs an arm and a leg: For most people who stay there, it's "on expenses".

That grumble out of the way, here's one more: The rooms are set around an atrium. (This deserves its own comment: I think that it should be protected as a monument to the architecture and interior decoration that made the 1990s the 1990s -- wonderful, and sure to evoke the slight dépaysement that comes from looking at pictures of women's bygone hairstyles -- "Did we ever REALLY think that was sexy?") When conference guests are assembled at the bottom of the atrium well, hitting the white wine and enjoying vigorous conversation, you'll wish you had your earplugs: Door from little foyer onto the balcony closed, door between bedroom and little foyer closed, and the noise still seeps in.

What else? A fifteen-minute walk from the railway station and shopping district, within a short stroll of all the historic bits and bobs, itself built into a bit of surplus-to-requirements castle; impeccably clean; lovely en-suite bedroom / bathroom, comfortable bed, lots and lots of hot water for my morning shower, big fluffy towels; an absolutely grand breakfast room in High Baroque plasterwork and a breakfast buffet of unparalleled variety and splendour. Do not, on any account, miss the sandstone sculpture ("Paroxysmenweib / Woman Writhing") at the entry to the cellar dining hall. Early Mannerism? Designed to be set atop a rampart and viewed from fifty metres below, not **shudder** face to face? Work of a sculptor reared by wolves, his rendition of the human female form constructed from lupine hearsay? You be the judge.

In a nutshell, then: Find a conference in Fulda and stay at the Maritim. You'll love it. (You'll be among the atrium chatterers, not up in your room wondering when the other guests will get to bed.) And those folks in Bought Ledger who handle your re-imbursement forms? So they bleed at the eyes when they see what it cost the firm to let you check your e-mail. Do you care?

“Great hotel in a perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

We went to Fulda for a friend's wedding, which took place in the neighbouring castle. Because of the snow problems on the trains we arrived quite late, but this was not a problem with check-in. The room was nice and very clean. We didn't have breakfast there because it wasn't included in the price of the room and it was expensive so if you prefer to eat in your hotel, make sure you have it included in your room rate. There are plenty of nice bakery and cafés around to have breakfast for much cheaper. The location was great for exploring Fulda, even the train station within a reasonable distance so if you don't have much luggage you could get away with walking to the hotel. Fulda is quite small so the hotel was within walking distance of all the sights. The only thing I could complain about was that you could hear some of the hall noise.
