“An average city centre hotel”

This is what I would call a standard Best Western.

I arrived in a bad mood - the hotel provided walking directions from from the nearest station - the directions provided are not adequate - I strongly suggest that someone from the hotel looks at the BW website and walks what is written! The problem started with their being more than one exit from the station ....

The welcome was an average one. My frustration as always is that I spend a lot of time filling in the electronic form with my details - DOB, address, inside leg measurement etc, indeed I have a Platinum card with BW, to find that when I check in my name is spelled badly, my nationality is correct and the rest of the details that are held in the BW system have to be written again by hand. Come on BW - get with the 21st Century. I know some people put their business address on their profile but you could introduce a little tick box to state the address given is home or business ... nothing worse than having some miserable german woman command more information, after a bad journey from the station. At least the rate infomation was correct.

The hotel is clean. My room was of a good size, looking onto the street, windows open which is a real bonus for me. Good air conditioning. Minibar, safe, plenty of storage in hotel. VERY comfortable bed. Internet connection worked first time, fast!

Bathroom - like others that reviewed this place - tiny! A half-bath with a shower over. BW should consider ripping out the baths and just leaving a "wet area" much more modern, uses less water, i would imagine easier to clean too! The shower had no curtain- rather some old perspex plastic shield. The bathroom is so out of synch with what is actually a VERY comfortable, functional room.

The cost - very acceptable. I paid 129 euros for 2 nights, with no silly pre-payment etc.
this hotel is a good find, clean, comfortable and certainly will be back - but a few improvements could be made.

“Clean & affordable but I won't go back.”

The price was right on this hotel, and to be honest the room was fairly large for Europe and very clean. Great location as well - walking distance from a major train station and many sights.

However, be warned! There is absolutely NO air conditioning to speak of in these rooms, nor did I see any way to control the radiators. I understand that it doesn't normally get extremely hot in this area and that most European hotels don't have A/C as we Americans know it, but all we had by way of keeping the room "cool" was a small desktop-style fan provided by the hotel. The windows did open (in fact, two of them opened very wide and there was a privacy screen) but this doesn't do much good at night as there is an extremely loud bar basically directly under the hotel. Both nights of our stay it stayed open and loud until 5 AM. We had to shut the windows to [somewhat] stifle the noise, but then it of course became unbearably hot in the room even though it was only in the 60s outside and we had the little fan.

Basically, if you're looking to get a good night's sleep I certainly can't suggest staying here in the summer. If there actually is a way of controlling the heat in the rooms in the winter it may not be as bad, as I'm guessing not so many people would be hanging around outside the bar...but you'll still hear/feel the thumping of the music :-/

“location and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

We stayed in the Hotel for 3 nights. Two nights on an early prepaid basis and one on B/W points.
It was a nice gesture to include breakfasts to the free room.
We booked this Hotel because it is minutes from the Zeil and very central.
We stayed on the fifth floor in a so called comfortable room which is typical to all
rooms from the fifth to the eights.
the room is smartly planned as hollows are used for cloth hanging, shelves and safe
and to my opinion and experience is adequate for two persons for few days stay.
The same goes for the bathroom.
The decor in the room is nothing to write about and the bede were too soft to our taste.
Cleaning was OK but we did not like the show of dirty towels and linen which were pilled on the floor of each door in our floor.A use of a trolley would have been much nicer.
The breakfast is at extra charge to the room and cost 14E p/p and with wide variety
but it lacks choice of yougorts.
The added value of this Hotel is the reception staff.
Mrs Buttner the morning manageress on duty and Mrs Turkovitz on the evening shift were very helpful and attentive to us ond other guests from various naionalities with language barrier.

As an extra gesture we were allowed to stay until late in the evening because of the
aircraft delay.

“Start fasting before you check in!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2011

I never had a double room which was so tiny! As was the bathroom, although bath cubboard would be more appropriate. The single beds were very narrow. A friend of mine had a single room, equally small but with a double bed and a bigger bathroom. Yet the location of the hotel was very central and yet in a quiet street in the old part of town, while old means here new. The breakfast (for 14,- Euro pp), was more than adequate. The girls down at the lobby were very nice, so why complain!
