I decided to take one of my friends to the Frankfurt Christmas Market and wanted somewhere central but affordable to stay. The Memphis was an obvious choice, and I was honestly delighted with our experience.
We found the hotel easily - it's a three minute walk from Frankfurt Main Station and about thirty seconds from Willy-Brandt-Platz station. If you're travelling in December, it's about a ten minute simple walk to the beginning of the Christmas Market, and also a short stroll to the river and all the museums.
Memphis hotel is a very small hotel, with a little reception and bar, quite a tight elevator and only six rooms on each floor. That said, the cleanliness is impeccable and the decor is bright and modern. We had the largest room on our floor according to the floorplan, and honestly the room shocked us with how big it was, with a very commendable bathroom to match.
Throughout our stay the reception staff were young, energetic and beyond helpful. On our first night, we were exhausted from travelling and couldn't face walking around in the cold to find a bar, so we had a few drinks at reception. They were very reasonably priced, and the young woman working reception played music from her laptop to establish a nice atmosphere. It was really quite a cute gesture.
Breakfast staff were also very warm hearted and friendly, even if they did not speak as much English as the reception staff. Each morning you are constantly kept with a full mug of tea or coffee, with a selection of juices, cereals, fruit, varied meats and cheeses as well as scrambled egg and hot sausages. They also have the most mind boggling variety of jams and preserves I think I've ever seen.
Overall I cannot tell you what good value this hotel was, and if I ever go back to Frankfurt for the Christmas Market it will doubtlessly be the place I choose to stay.
