“Good, Centrally Located Option in Frankfurt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

We chose Munchener Hof Hotel in Frankfurt because 1) it was one of the only places we could find with a triple room available; 2) it seemed to get some of the best reviews on TripAdvisor of all the area hotels; 3) and it was one of the most affordable.

I have to say overall, it was a pleasant experience. The bed was clean and comfortable, the room was big enough for our needs with shelves, desktops, and space to put away luggage and hang clothes. Noise from the street below was minimal and didn't bother us. Everything in the bathroom was clean and worked properly but one minor complaint: The pressure from the shower was sharp so it kind've hurt when the water hit me and there was no way to readjust it. But there was certainly plenty of hot water which is more important to me anyways. Breakfast was included and it included bread, rolls, cheese, meats, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, juice -- minimal, but really all you need to get your day going. The white walls throughout the hotel are brightened up a bit with some interesting, colorful art. I really have no complaints about the service. At worst, one of the front desk guys wasn't the friendliest, but oh well, I'm not there to make friends with him! On the other hand, another front desk clerk was more then helpful in assisting me to book my room for one extra night at the last minute.

The hotel is a five-minute walk at most to the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and there is public transportation everywhere to take you quickly and efficiently to anywhere you want to go in the city. The Red Light District is a couple of streets over, but you don't have to go through it to get to public transportation or to the Hauptbahnhof. Anyways, I walked directly through it during both the day and night and it didn't feel unsafe either time.

Room Tip: I read a couple of reviews where people were bothered by the street noise, so maybe the higher up yo...

“Reasonably Priced and Located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

I spent many hours searching for a centrally located hotel for a recent trip that would accommodate 3 adults. Most of the budget priced options are located in the Bahnhofviertel area which is also home to the Red Light District. After reading reviews, I decided Munchener Hof sounded the best. It is located just a few meters after exiting the main hauptbahnhof. The street perpendicular to it is home to most of the red light attractions, however, it is a very lively place, not really shady at all. I walked around both day and night and had no problems. Actually, it is a very colorful and interesting area compared to more boring neighborhoods you find in the United States. The check-in process was extremely seamless. The public areas might seem a little unkept, but this was mostly due to having 1 cleaning lady, who kept her supplies out on each floor while she is cleaning. The rooms are small but comfortable with windows that open and a fan. The bathroom is remarkably big considering that the rooms are not huge. Flat screen TV was nice, with kabel. I was shocked at how good the FREE breakfast was too. It is simple, with rolls, bread, eggs, meat, cheese, coffee, tea, condiments, etc. Perfect to start the day.

You get an hr of free wifi each day, and beyond that it is 7 Euros. The connection was fine in the room, and there is also a public computer terminal located near the dining room that is free. Perfect to do odds and ends like flight check-in, etc. I never had to wait to use it. Even though this hotel is located in the "shady" part of town (which isn't really shady at all) every guest that I saw was a business professional, couple, or tourist. No scary characters in the place at all. This will probably be the first hotel I check for the next time I am in Frankfurt!

“Centrally located clean normal hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

I was looking for reasonably priced, close to main railway station, as I was traveling by tracks. Through different comparison sites I ended into this hotel.
Area around at hotel is not very good after 8-9pm. Coming from Main Railroad station (in German HBF), is totally ok. Just one block further, it starts looking unsafe "redlight district" and other "hangarounds". That's why I added "normal" into the headline.

Rooms are small and clean. My room had curiosity of having shower and toilet separately "closets". Standard rooms have normal bathrooms. Bed was good and linen were ok too, though I found some holes in sheets. Structure wise I'm quite sure that hotel is bug free (2011) as much it can be in a city that is over 1000 years old. Bathroom tiles were new and spotless, which tells that housekeeping takes their work seriously. It was amazingly spotless and clean room (checked under bed even). I have spent time in worse 4-5 star hotels.
Outside tram traffic causes significantly noise on lower floors, but of course closing window leaves the noise out. Room(s) are without AC, which means that room gets warm after closing window. A fan in the room cools bit.

Restaurant is more or less just breakfast room, but served its purpose well. Breakfast was good, bread and cheese, juice, yogurt etc.

Internet was free for an hour, which nowadays is of course disadvantage. But most of airlines charge for luggage, why not hotels for internet.

Staff was good. Upon arrival a man greeted with broken German, but everything sorted well. A young lady at the reception in the morning at checkout time spoke fluent English and German.

I would summarize:
- excellent value for money
- would stay again
- perfect location for overnight near station

Room Tip: Avoid rooms x1 and x6, as they are located at staircase / by elevator. x2-5 are in separate lobby. X...

“Good Hotel but watch the Dynamic Currency Converesion scam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 June 2011

This is a nice cheap Hotel I have used before. They are playing now games with the internet pricing but the real rip off was the Dynamic currency conversion scam on credit cards. With a straight face the desk clerk claimed it was "required" by the bank. Pay in cash and avoid this sleazy rip off.
