stayed at the Westin Grand Frankfurt at the end of January 2012. I arrived into Frankfurt on an early morning flight from Sydney (via Abu Dhabi) and having made my reservation through the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts program, I was given benefits including an early checkin, room upgrade, late checkout (4pm), breakfast included and an amenity (at this hotel was an 85 Euro food and beverage voucher)
Thankfully I was able to check-in at 7.00am when I arrived at the hotel (didnt expect that) and the club room that I had booked was upgraded to a junior suite which included a separate toilet near the door, a separate living room, additional cupboards and ofcourse the main bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom was of a high standard with a separate shower, toilet and bathtub. The amenities were Bvlgari (impressive!) and the room was spotlessly clean (unlike the below review) The bed was comfortable, as it features the Westin 'heavenly bed' - so slept very well for the 2 nights I stayed at the hotel. I was also happy that they had adhered to my requests for a high floor and a room away from the lifts (I was put on the 6th floor which is the top floor of the hotel) as I like a quiet room.
I had breakfast in the restaurant on level 1 called Motions which had a very good selection of food. Having travelled very extensively around the world and having stayed in many 5 star hotels, I thought the overall selection of food was great. Eggs were also made freshly to order and were of a high quality. I also loved the varied selection of breads.
I was entitled usage of the club lounge, which I found to be quite underwhelming. The decor was lovely and it was quite spacious and led out onto a split level patio overlooking the hotel foyer and bar. The wine and food selection (including the usual evening canapes) was average in my opinion. Room for improvement. Furthermore, it didnt look like the club lounge was permanently staffed (except for someone appearing occasionally to clean tables)
I enjoyed use of the cigar lounge on one evening. It is more of a 'smoking room' than cigar lounge, with an average selection of cuban cigars, but mostly the Davidoff brand. A tip if you like to smoke a cigar and enjoy a drink. You can order a drink at the bar and they will bring it into the lounge for you.
The location was great, near the famous shopping strip called the Zeil. The hotel website says its a 2 minute walk, its more like 30 seconds. Also very close is the train station which I used to get to the Messe (trade fair grounds) which is about 5 stops. It is also really easy to get a taxi, as there was always a queue of them waiting.
The concierge team were excellent and helped me with a variety of requests, including looking after some items I had delivered to the hotel, ordering me some chocolates from a little boutique chocolate shop in Switzerland, and even contacted my airline when I had found out my flight was cancelled, and helped me re-book my new flights.
I didnt use the spa or gym facilities so could not comment on these.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would recommend without hesitation for people to stay here.
