The location is absolutely brilliant if you want to visit the Messe (Fair).
From the main train station (Hauptbanhof), it's two tram stops on the no 16 or 17 to Hohenstraufenstrasse--a 50 mtr walk then brings you to the hotel. Or, if you don't have heavy luggage, take the U4 underground 1 stop to Festhalle, and a 20 mtr walk later, down Rheinstrasse, you are in the Astoria. To get to the fair, simply walk right through the U Bahn underground station to the opposite side, and you come out right inside the fair grounds-very useful on a cold winter day-if you intend to go only to the fair and back, it saves you the bother of carrying warm clothing.
The room I got was the smallest ever-barely 15 sqr mtrs, including the bathroom-at 190 Euro during the fair days, it was high, particularly since the hotel is just a borderline 3 star hotel.
Breakfast, included in the tarriff, was adequate, though not lavish, Free internet was available in the conference room, or in the room via a password. The TV was small, and there was a large work table, but no safe, and a hair dryer was available on request. Parking was available behind the hotel, and there seemed to be some arrangement with the gym next door for those who were interested. There are half a dozen restaurants within walking distance on Rheinstrasse, Beethovenstrasse and Westendplatzstrasse, and a 20 minute ride on the UBahn or tram will take you to Brockenheim or Zeil where there are more shopping and dining options.
All in all, adequate and very convenient, if not luxurious.
