“Wonderful hotel for business...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Just returned from a visit to the Paper World show in Frankfurt and stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. As in the past, it was a wonderful experience. The room was large, quiet and comfortable with everything that you could want in a stay. The Messe was directly across the street. Drinks in the lobby for happy hour - great! Piano bar in the hotel was fun too for a night-cap. I have stayed here about 10 times through the years and enjoyed my stay every time.

“Nice building, poor service, overpriced - even for Frankfurt”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The hotel is located in the centre of Frankfurt - 7 mins walking from main Railway Station, facing Frankfurt Fair ground. This is definitely its plus.

Another plus - architecture. really nice decor, nice rooms.

Minus - service. Starting from inefficient reception (10 minutes waiting time at 13:00 -not a rush hour one would think), maitre d'hotel at the restaurant - rude to the staff which you can see when being served - no pleasure.

On top of it gym is "5 minutes walking distance" as they informed me at the reception. I do not think it is fair saying they jave a gym. They simply do not have it and they mislead you. try to "walk 5 minutes" at freezing temperature we have in Frankfurt nowadays...

And all those pleasures for only 250 Euro per night! Never again!

Dear guest aszanti,

Thank you for sharing your opinion on Tripadvisor.

We are sorry to hear about your experience and disappointment regarding our reception. It is definitely not our standard to keep our guests waiting.

We are very sorry for not having made you feel welcome in our restaurant. I can assure you that we always try to do our utmost to offer all our guests an attentive service. We will surely find a way to improve our services and forwarded your comments to the relevant department.

We are sorry not to have mentioned directly on your arrival that the fitness area is not located within the hotel. Our apologies by the misleading expression that the hotel has the possibility to provide free of charge access to a fitness center located close. At a current stage we are planning a fitness and spa center to be finished in 2013/14. It will be located on top of the hotel. With this we are reacting on behalf of our guests needs and wishes.

If your travel plans bring you back to Frankfurt, we look forward to welcoming you back and to convince you about our improved service.
Best regards,
Management

“Smart, well-appointed hotel which gets the little details wrong”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This is a nice hotel with well-intentioned staff who don't seem to be on top of their game. My minor gripes: I would like to have been told before going to my room that the lights are activated by an unlit switch above my head next to the door (not a system I've encountered in any hotel I've stayed in in Germany before); I could hear doors on the floor below opening and swinging closed all through the night; my (non-smoking) room stank of cigar smoke in the morning (?!), but hadn't when I went to bed; all three doors inside my room automatically swung closed (presumably a fire safety measure), but the front door didn't - I would prefer the opposite, the front door to close itself and the internal doors to stay open; there was a writing desk, but the nearest powerpoint was on the opposite wall of the room. These are minor irritations, but a five star hotel needs to deliver better. At very good hotels, staff think through all these issues and anticipate (and remove) problems before they occur.

Dear Rodster13,

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback through Tripadvisor.

We feel very sorry for not being able to fully fulfill your expectations during your last stay.
Indeed, we thank you a lot for your evaluation and for your valuable input and your constructive criticism. We will take your suggestions regarding the room into consideration and do our best to realize those to create a more comfortable stay for our guests.

We would like to present our apology for the fact that our room did not meet your expectations in the way that the room smelt of smoke even though it was a non-smoking room.

Thank you for your review. Again, we are very sorry to have not been able to fully convince you with our hotel but we hope we can over meet your needs during your next stay with us.

Best regards,
Management

“It wasn't a one-off”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I stayed at the Hessischer last year and was impressed. Nothing's changed.

The one thing is that I had a single bed (smoking room at short notice). If you are taller than 6'2" you might get cold feet. I'd ask for a room with a bigger bed.

Complaints are now out of the way. The room was immaculate, as was the welcome. My wifi worked painlessly this time.

The only thing that it missed was a view, but I doubt that you'd go to Frankfurt for that anyway.

Room Tip: Not facing the road!
