I picked the Fleming not based on any reviews or advertising, more or less arbitrarily. The choice was a good one. The Fleming is less than a five minute walk to the Zeil, Frankfurt's central shopping district and pedestrian zone. All points in the center of Frankfurt are within easy reach and restaurants abound nearby. But, I'm ahead of myself. My GPS led me right to it, but getting to the parking lot wasn't quite that easy. For those seeking the parking, drive past the hotel on the right hand side as you're facing it, second entrance on the right.
The parking lot is probably the low point since it is behind the building and you have to walk through another parking lot to get to the hotel. At night it is poorly lit, and the ground is laid with stone, rather than being paved. The lady of this couple had a hard time walking and there were some unsightly puddles. But, that truly is the low part. Everything else was very nice.
Service at the lobby was pleasant, efficient and without a hitch. The lobby is bright, modern and has a luxurious feel to it. One special attraction - a Paternoster - not even sure how to translate it - essentially a precursor of today's elevators with boxes that move continuously and you simply have to get on and jump off, where you want. But there was a regular elevator as well, for the less adventurous.
We had a room on the fourth floor with a large window front looking out over the Eschenheimer Turm, toward the banking district and to the left the Zeil (not quite within view). The room itself was large, modern and very nicely furnished. It showed that care had been taken in setting it up. The shower is a large about 1.2m wide square glass box in the room. If you're bashful, this might be a problem, but we enjoyed it. It is set on a very nice marble base and the shower head was wonderful. Great design. The sink and mirror were next to the shower, the toilet was fortunately in its separate little room. A desk and large, flat screen TV against one wall, and the bed opposite that, rounded out the living space. One minus point for the bed - and I've noted this in other reviews - what a shame they don't put real double beds in these rooms, but slide two twin beds next to each other, leaving the infamous visitor's gap in the middle. This is a personal peave - put in a queen bed, or at least tie the twin beds together so they don't slide apart. Beyond that, the beds were clean and comfortable, and the sleep was restful.
Breakfast is served on the 7th Floor in kind of a glass veranda with a view over the city. Very pleasant staff, great selection, buffet and made to order items, everything you need to get you started in the morning. I'd have liked to move at a more leisurley pace, but the world was calling.
I highly recommend this place for all its features. Don't let the parking lot scare you (it really isn't all that bad), the rest of the place is well worth it.
I did check out the wellness area in the basement and thought it was very nice, though I didn't actually make use of the saunas or the fitness equipment. Still it seemed very well designed and most of all, clean.
