I have stayed in many Ibis Hotels, and this one is very typical of the older style. The rooms are comfortable and reasonably equipped, but the "ships cabin" style bathroom is noisy and basic. The lobby, bar and breakfast areas look old and tired, although the breakfast was good. Okay for an overnight stay. Refurbishment work was in progress during our stay - hopefully it will bring things up to the improved standards of more modern Ibis hotels.

I stayed at Ibis Darmstadt during the Frankfurt Bookfair as all hotels in Frankfurt at reasonable prices( that is expensive but not extortionate) were full. In this context the hotel compared to Frankfurt hotel prices provides very good value for money. There is a direct S-Bahn from Darmstadt to the Bookfair exhibition Hall (Messe) which is free with exhibitor ticket. The downside is that the hotel is 1 km from the train station ( OK in good weather, miserable if raining). and takes nearly 1 hour. There is also an intercity to the main Frankfurt station ( less than 20 minutes, 7.50 Euro then connection to Messe). I was all day at the Book fair and related engagements in the evenings therefore hardly used any hotel facilities. My impression was that they were efficient.

i normally stay at one of two other hotels in Darmstadt when visiting our local office. When these two weren't available, I went on a hunt for an alternative.

I found the Ibis a solid basic hotel with all the basics well covered. It's nothing flash, everything's basic but worked well. The wifi is of sufficient bandwidth to run video and audio conference. the desk expands across the entire end wall, so room to stretch out and work.

The bathroom (and entire room) was quite clean and it has an air conditioner that actually works!

The breakfast was very limited, and lower quality items than what I've experienced elsewhere, but again, it works.

All in all, this hotel worked well, and was 1/3 less than where I normally stayed. I'd stay here again, without a doubt. Hope this helps others.
