“Closest to feeling like "home"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

There is a certain art in making people feel comfortable and relaxed in a hotel. Not many hotels have it. This is a rare exception. There is nothing particularly outstanding about the amenities or rooms. They are comfortable and functional. A good value for the price. But it is the service that sets the Park Hotel apart from others. Most of the members of the team have worked here for years and recognize the repeat guests and know them by name. But even if its your first time here, they make you feel welcome and comfortable. Truly they go out of their way to help.

The location is first rate. Bad Homburg is the best place to stay in the Frankfurt area regardless if you are here for pleasure or business. The center piece of the city is a wonderful, huge park. In the grand central European traditions. Lots of walking paths, health treatments at the "Kur" which include water, mud, massage, etc. etc. The hotel , as the name implies, is right across the street from the park. No other hotel can really boast such wonderful location in Bad Homburg.

This is not a Holiday Inn. The rooms are very much in a German style. Which means, for example, oriented more toward bath takes than shower takers. Don't be an ugly American and make a big deal bout it. Try taking a bath. You may find you will slow down and enjoy yourself. There is no air conditioning. Bad Homburg is in the hills and it rarely gets hot. Usually, all you need to cool down is just an open window. But if it happens to be really hot out, rooms will get warm in the afternoon, but always cool again by nigh time.

For english speakers, the only TV channel of interest is CNN. But if you are here to watch TV, you are missing out. The staff ALL speak very good ENglish and you will never feel "awkward".

The buffet breakfast is amazing. It's like having a top rate Sunday brunch EVERY DAY for breakfast. It's a real pleasure and gets your day off to a right start. Alas, as with most of the german hotels Wireless Internet is charged extra. However, UNLIKE most of the other hotels, you buy "use time". Which means you only pay while you are on. That makes the price reasonable.

Italian restaurant in the hotel building is first rate (La Tavolla). The restaurant "Best of Beef" is a good steak house, but would be considered as overpriced by anyone from America.

Bottom line - this is a great "base" from which to explore Germany. You will leave with find memories.

Room Tip: For romantic getway book

“Great location and breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

Bad Homburg is a quaint town with lots of parks, spas, restaurants and coffee shops. It is only 1/2 hour by train to Frankfurt city and also 1/2 hour by taxi to Frankfurt airport. I am not sure if this hotel is a good value as I did not price out the other ones in town. It cost me 128 Euros with breakfast.

Pros: Located near many parks, walking trails and spas. Great breakfast buffet. Very comfortable beds. Clean and moderately quiet rooms. In room safes firmly bolted to wall. Only a short 20minute walk to train station.

Cons: No air conditioning. Showers consist of poorly converted bathtubs with short splash guards leading to uncomfortable water spray angles and splashing on floor. Gym is very poor and not worth using. The hotel charges for in-room internet usage.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the front of the hotel.

“A truly superb hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2010

I have twice stayed at the Park Hotel. The first stay was for just over two weeks, and the second for just over three weeks. Both stays were related to extended business matters. These long stays, I believe, give me a really good basis on which to judge this hotel.

The staff are invariably very helpful, warm, friendly and efficient. The accommodation is good, and the hotel spotlessly clean. The breakfasts are superb - indeed, perhaps the best I have had anywhere. Room service always is courteous. The hotel, for any longer stay, has a warm, friendly, atmosphere. The staff at reception are willing to go to GREAT lengths to make one's stay commodious and enjoyable. The breakfast room staff very quickly get to know one's preferences and circumstances. (One's coffee is on the table literally before one has reached it - accompanied by an always a pleasant, non instrusive, chat.) The La Tavola Restaurant is very good indeed, with regular diners enjoying personalised service.

My only criticisms are that the internet connection is slow and - for people with online work to do - very expensive, and the laundry service, while supremely efficient, is pricey. Oh: and a coffee machine/kettle in the bedroom would be a good addition!

A hotel to STRONGLY recommend to those going to Frankfurt or Bad Homburg.

“Very old hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2009

The hotel is very old. My room had a very small single bed. It was my first trip to Europe and I needed a electricity plu adaptor but the hotel didnt have it to borrow me.
Cable TV with no channels in English.
The shower is extremelly small.
Breakfast was good.

The hotel is very well located, with seveal restaurants and shopping from a walk distance from the hotel.
In from of the hotel there is a beautiful park.

“Employees lie, Manager hides”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2008

My husband and I stayed one night for the purpose of using the Kur Royal spa (fabulous). We had forgotten to bring our VAT (tax-free) form with us, and the desk worker told us it was no problem that we return the following day with the form to have the tax taken off (we live in Germany - this has never been a problem at any German hotel we've stayed at and we've traveled extensively.) I returned the next day, and a female desk worker initially (snottily) refused to take the form, then went around the corner to the manager's office and asked about it after I explained quite a few times that VAT forms are valid for German hotels. I heard the manager respond to her, but when she came back still refusing, I asked to speak to the manager and she said he wasn't there. I replied that she'd just talked to him(!) and she quickly decided she'd called him on the phone. I told her I heard him talking to her(!!), and then she decided that he WAS there, but he was on the phone. (His office was no more than 3 meters away, and he was not on the phone.) I said no problem, I'd wait for him, and she told me he wasn't coming out to answer my question. She refused to give her name (for the letter I'll be writing to the owners of this hotel) and am shocked that a manager would hide from his guests and listen from around the corner while his employees lie for him. I was quite embarrassed for him as I left.

It's a shame, as the location from this hotel to the Kur Royal spa is great, only a 5 minute walk through a nice park. Rooms aren't bad, breakfast is fine, but the decor is quite outdated. I 100% recommend finding another hotel however; this one is surrounded by other nice looking hotels who can't possibly treat their guests as poorly as the management of the Parkhotel.
