We stayed at this hotel 3 nights. My husband thought he would play golf with our German friends at the hotel Instead, he only ended up using the driving range once. He said the staff in the golf clubhouse was uptight and not very friendly. The front desk staff was helpful but I wouldn't say any of them were charming or that they tried to go out of their way to be friendly. They were just adequate. I have to add that we are outgoing and can usually get people to chat with us. On our two week trip, I would say it was the least warm staff. The hotel doesn't have air conditioning. By the third day, I ask for a fan which helped. Our room was on the second floor and looked out over the patio and outside bar. At night, cigarette smoke would come into the room because we had to leave our windows open to get air. It was about 65 to 76 degrees outside at night so our room never got really cool. Also, the frogs in the pond are really loud. It reminded me or summer camp in Louisiana when we would camp out near a lake. They sounded like the loudest bullfrogs in the world...all night. The rooms were large and spacious. The pool was nice but we had to wait to swim until after a aqua aerobics class was over. Also, there were a ton of rules to follow before swimming. Take a shower (that a good rule). Don't use your street shoes in the pool area. Wear flip flops to the pool. I think there were some others too. My daughter sat in the hot tub during the aerobics class waiting to swim in the large part of the pool. Luckily, one lady was helpful in explaining the rules!! They were posted on the wall but we were following them but I still felt like everyone was policing everyone else to make sure no one broke the rules.
The rooms were the least charming of all of our hotels on our two week trip. They were not very updated and were kind of bland. If you plan to play a lot of golf, then this is a great hotel choice. Otherwise, we prefered a hotel in Volksdorf that we stayed in one night at the end of our trip.

Comfortable hotel. Bad thing for me, all the informations on the room was in deutsch. Wellness is average. Excellent restaurant with excellent staff, chef is ingenious. Delicious food. I think the best dinner this year. room was clean, quite large, wired paid internet access.

We booked this hotel based on the name Steigenberger, however be careful there are two Stegenbergers. One in the heart of the City and this one 35 euros taxi ride outside of Hamburg, so if you want a city break this isnt the place to stay. That said it is a very nice hotel with very welcoming and knowledgeable staff that are always ready to help you.

We misssed breakfast so decided to wait for lunch however their are no Hamburgers or Pizzas on the menu.

All in all a very good hotel but a little far out.

Very friendly and attentive staff, most spoke excellent English. Room was well appointed and comfortable. Breakfast buffet was amazing and regularly replenished, though the dining room was very busy at the weekend as the hotel caters for weddings and other family celebrations. We enjoyed a couple of light meals in the club restaurant, good food and excellent service. It was very easy to get into the centre of Hamburg using bus/train, free parking at the hotel was plentiful.
