I really liked this hotel. Wasn't too sure about it on reading reviews but when we landed we were pleasantly surprised. It's a small hotel, quite compact but really clean. The rooms are quite small but they were fully equiped. They didn't have tea and coffee making facilities but on reading other reviews i believe you could get this on request. Staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel is right beside the main train and bus stations and it is really easy to get around. The main Reeperbaan area is just about 6 stops on the train. and there are many restaurants and pubs close by. The breakfast was also good. I would defintely stay again.

Think they have 2 diff star ratings as the new part is a 3 star and the old is a 2 star didnt matter on my stay though rooms seemed the same !!!!
Anyway I stayed in the old part of the hotel, the new rooms seem to come with refurb on the bathroom front, maid service great!!
Nice staff very friendly and helpful 5 mins walk from the main train station where u have all connections you need via buses to the airport (airport express) 5 euros I think
Trains to Lubeck etc
Hautbahnhoff is a MAJOR underground station as well all lines seem to serve here. St pauli, harbour, reeperbahn only 10 mins by underground.
Main train station has lots of food outlets from sushi to burger king anything you want.
Area is a bit seedy, some prostitutes on the corner near the hotel.
Dont let this bother you this place is a bargain. would stay again.

I just stayed one night in this hotel (beginning of June/06) and it is possibly one of the worst hotels I have ever been (by the way, I always go to buget hotels as I cannot afford anything expensive). When I found it on the web I didn’t think I was going to stay in a wonderful hotel, but at least I was expecting something descent.
Well, in my opinion it is dreadful. Although I agree with what people said in the previous reviews, I think most of them are quite generous.
The area is terrible and very oppressive, not because it is one of the red light district areas, but because it is ugly, run down and it is not the sort of place you want to spend a night, never mind a whole weekend.
The Hotel room was small, the bathroom was smelly, the shower was more like a partially blocked sprinkler and the duvet was so small that it didn’t even fit the bad or my cover my body. I hated it with passion.
Pay a bit more and stay a away from this area and hotel, you won't regret!!!

The Elysar-Novum is a clean 3 Star Hotel in a central location. The rooms in the original building are small and can be noisy (if you are close to the lift). Bathrooms are renovated. We asked for a room swap and got a room in the newly renovated Hotel extension (room 205). This room was much bigger and quiet. Breakfast was great with a good choice.
Area is close to station and one of Hamburgs red-light districts at night. A lot of Gay bars are close by. We liked the Nagel Restaurant opposit the station (south exit). Good food and great beers. Would stay again for a good price but it is not my favourite Hotel in Hamburg. Airport bus stop is under 5 min walking distance.
