We stayed 3 nights in the Helgoland and no complaints as such but cant really think of a lot to go delirious about either, rooms are ok, clean, basic etc staff were pleasant but we didnt really have anything to test them on, as it was up and out each morning, bit pricy when we stayed ,but there was a huge sporting event on that we were going to and also an annual german hippy day or something which meant every thing was booked out weeks in advance so maybe its not always like this.Subway is 300 yards directly behind the hotel and 2 stops to everything or a bus right out front which is handy if your not driving, 24hr garage nearby and mcdonalds with cafe but thats it until you get into Hamburg, didnt bother with the hotel breakfast as dont really go into the fry ups as much and wasnt paying full whack for 2 bowls of cereal but that was just us,German people we met were some of the nicest you could come across and always polite and friendly and a lot speak great english, anyway hotel does the job asked, no real frills but gets the job done.
