Great location, the main train station is across the road. Plenty of restaurants right next door. The breakfast buffet was one of the best I've ever seen, great selections for all tastes, plenty of fresh produce and a chef on hand. The service was excellent with plenty of tables.
The room was a little small, but this is common in Europe and the bathroom was a tad cramped too, but clean. I never got to use the spa, massage tables or indoor water slide (pity).

I cannot say enough good things about the Europaeischer Hof. We had an unexpected stop in Hamburg and found this hotel on line while heading to Hamburg by train. All we wanted was a decent place at a good price close to the train station, but we got so much more! The hotel is literally across the street from the central train station, and I was surprised at how clean and safe the neighborhood seemed (I remember from earlier visits that the area seemed a bit rough). The check-in service was impeccable, and our room exceeded our expectations for the price, with a separate seating area and a huge bathroom. We were a bit concerned that street noise might be an issue, but if there was any the windows kept it out. The breakfast buffet (included) was magnificent, with a huge selection in a very pleasant setting (we especially liked the outdoor terrace above the main entrance).

Okay, there were a couple of downsides. The hotel is large and maze-like, and we had to walk a good distance to our room. Also, our double bed was actually two single beds pushed together, each with its own set of linens and a crack down the middle (but that it not at all uncommon in Europe). Overall, however, the Europaeischer Hof is a first-rate hotel. We were just sorry that we were only staying one night--we hope to return to Hamburg and stay longer next time--definitely at the Europaeischer Hof again!

The Hotel is definitely in easy to reach city center place. All you need is to cross central station and you are at the main shopping street of Hamburg. I was gladly surprised about SPA / Wellness area of this hotel. Not often you can find something like this in a city hotel. Located throughout several floors it had nice big swimming pool, saunas and a huge slide for children I guess. On a week day it is not crowded at all.Guests of hotel receive complimentary bathrobes, but don't forget slippers of your own otherwise you have to be barefoot or buy ones from the kiosk in SPA reception. Concerning breakfast - they do their best to suite any taste. Freshly baked bread, served warm, all kind of German meat products and on weekends sparkling wine (prosecco). Huge plate of fruits and enough of vegetables.

Several things that I disliked and that made me move to another hotel after I stayed in Europäischer Hof for five nights. Terrible smell in the room, something mixture of old building, bad things from the kitchen and wet. This smell penetrated all my things and I could not stay longer with it. Also I disliked area of central station you need to cross every time you reach your hotel by foot from the town. Every corner is smelly, full of strange people begging for tips or just sleeping on the floor with their dogs. This is not definitely the nicest thing of the city and definitely hotel has nothing what to do with this.

The location of the hotel is fantastic, being only a short walk away from the lake, the main shops and the Altstadt. Like with any train station, there were a few small groups of people hanging around drinking, but they weren't intimidating -even to a woman on her own- although I would avoid walking around there very late at night if alone. The room was a great size (double) and extremely comfortable. Despite being opposite the station, I couldn't hear any noises from the trains. The spa area was also very good, with plenty of sunbeds and space. The staff were very helpful and polite and I would definitely stay in this hotel again.
