“Great hotel, even better breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

So I have been staying for six days when writing this and everything has met up with my expectations. The pool is open early on so you can take some laps before you eat breakfast if you want. The breakfast buffe is just to die for - and if well used, it's all you'll need until five or six in the evening.
The rooms are fine and clean. They also got some gym-equipment in the spa if you feel like getting some work out.

“Nice hotel, just out of the centre of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I stayed here for 2 nights and really enjoyed the hotel and the staff.

Rooms are large and very comfortable and the hotel breakfast is well worth including.

Only complaint is that it is not in the centre of town (about 15 min walk) and the decor feels a little 80's inside.

I'd return to this hotel.

“Really nice hotel, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We stayed at the Grand Elysee Hotel in the weekend of New Years. We were in Hamburg to enjoy the city and just be out.

The hotel is really nice. It's everything you expect from a 5 star hotel. It's clean, friendly employees and the rooms are good. The hotel has lots of extras: bars, restaurants etc. The best is the swimming pool and spa. For a hotel this is really a big area. The pool (with hot tub) has a good size (I estimate it's 20m long by 15m). The sauna area has several different saunas and the staff here is again really nice.

All in all a good stay for business and leisure

“Great Hotel, Spa and Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Very Nice Hotel and Spa
The staff was friendly and helpful. The building was clean and well maintained. The Grand Elysee is known for the art works around the hotel. It is also in a good location, a very short walk to the S-bahn and within waking distance of the City Center. The hotel has restaurants for lunch and dinner, but I always ate these meals out.

The room was great, the bed was comfortable, the shower was very good. My room had a little balcony, just large enough to get a little fresh air. I judge a room by the bed and the bathroom. I had a king sized bed that was VERY comfortable. The Bathroom was large enough and very modern. The shower had a good shower head, it was high enough and there was enough room.

I ate breakfast in the hotel, it was good just not €20 good.

Now the Spa, it is fantastic. It has a large pool area with plenty of comfort lounge chairs, it also has a large comfortable whirlpool (not too hot). The fitness center is good with good equipment. The locker room was clean with nice lockers. The saunas and sauna area is great, they have two saunas, a steam room, shelves for personal items, and showers. All are coed, so leave your inhibitions at the door.

A comment about Spas in Germany and Europe. A Spa is a place of health, fitness and relaxation. It is not a place for socializing, playing or partying. Can you take the kids to the pool, yes but make sure they understand they cannot be loud or rowdy.
Some general guidelines and comments about using German or European Spas
Swimming Pools Men don't wear long surf shorts unless you want to look unfashionable, instead try a shorter well fitting boxer. Speedo are very common. Keep in mind there may be other guest there trying to swim laps. In some German Spas swimwear is NOT allowed even in and around the swimming pools.
Saunas: Swimwear is NEVER allowed If you are entering the sauna area from the pool you remove your swimsuit and shower first. At most Spas expect to be nude in the sauna. If you are too much of a prude don't go to saunas. You are always expected to shower first. When you are ready, walk in the sauna spread out your towel where you want to sit or lay and enjoy the sauna. You should stay completely on your towel, that includes your feet. You should try to keep all sweet off the wood.

I am always glad to answer questions

“almost five stars”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

It's a comfortable hotel with a great sauna/spa.
The (standard) rooms are of an adequate size and are very clean. They have great matrasses too. I'd give this hotel 4 stars though. That's because the finishing touch you'd expect from a five star hotel just isn't there:
- there were only two big towels
- a small block of soap instead of shower gel
- the bathroom looks ok and clean, but some items were broken
- it's nice to have free internet, but it's wired and 200 kb/s just isn't high speed (as claimed)

I certainly do not regret my stay in this hotel, but I'm not sure if it was worth € 140 a night (that's without breakfast!)

Tip if you're travelling by car: use one of the free P+R parking lots. There's always a tube or S-Bahn station nearby wich will take you to the Dammtor station in minutes.
