Very Nice Hotel and Spa
The staff was friendly and helpful. The building was clean and well maintained. The Grand Elysee is known for the art works around the hotel. It is also in a good location, a very short walk to the S-bahn and within waking distance of the City Center. The hotel has restaurants for lunch and dinner, but I always ate these meals out.
The room was great, the bed was comfortable, the shower was very good. My room had a little balcony, just large enough to get a little fresh air. I judge a room by the bed and the bathroom. I had a king sized bed that was VERY comfortable. The Bathroom was large enough and very modern. The shower had a good shower head, it was high enough and there was enough room.
I ate breakfast in the hotel, it was good just not €20 good.
Now the Spa, it is fantastic. It has a large pool area with plenty of comfort lounge chairs, it also has a large comfortable whirlpool (not too hot). The fitness center is good with good equipment. The locker room was clean with nice lockers. The saunas and sauna area is great, they have two saunas, a steam room, shelves for personal items, and showers. All are coed, so leave your inhibitions at the door.
A comment about Spas in Germany and Europe. A Spa is a place of health, fitness and relaxation. It is not a place for socializing, playing or partying. Can you take the kids to the pool, yes but make sure they understand they cannot be loud or rowdy.
Some general guidelines and comments about using German or European Spas
Swimming Pools Men don't wear long surf shorts unless you want to look unfashionable, instead try a shorter well fitting boxer. Speedo are very common. Keep in mind there may be other guest there trying to swim laps. In some German Spas swimwear is NOT allowed even in and around the swimming pools.
Saunas: Swimwear is NEVER allowed If you are entering the sauna area from the pool you remove your swimsuit and shower first. At most Spas expect to be nude in the sauna. If you are too much of a prude don't go to saunas. You are always expected to shower first. When you are ready, walk in the sauna spread out your towel where you want to sit or lay and enjoy the sauna. You should stay completely on your towel, that includes your feet. You should try to keep all sweet off the wood.
I am always glad to answer questions
