We booked hotel Eden as a last minute choice, it was a long weekend in Hamburg and all the good options had been taken by the time we booked.
The hotel location is good especially if you are catching an early morning train, it is only a 5 minute walk to the station. The area around the hotel is a bit seedy but there are a few good places to go for a drink and it is not too much of a walk into the main town centre.
When we arrived at the hotel we were given our room, it was on the top floor. I immediately noted that as we walked past the rooms on the way to our room that we were on the floor of rooms with shared bathrooms. When we opened the door to our room, there was a strange foyer with an electricity meter box in it, the bathroom was off this foyer and the bed room on the other side.
The room looked nothing like the rooms in the photos, it had broken Venetian blinds on an attic style window, to say we felt we had been stooges was an understatement.
We immediately went back to reception to complain, the receptionist said it was the last room available. We complained that it was not like the room we had booked and I pressed her until she finally admitted it was not the type of room we had booked and that they had given someone else our room!
On that note we demanded we be given the type of room we paid for and she again said there was no choice available, by this stage we were getting quite annoyed as we felt we had been ripped off. After about 10 minutes of her looking at the computer she finally said she had found us a room and gave us a key to a different room.
The new room certainly was better but it was not at all worth the price we paid. The shower was disgusting, mouldy and unclean!
The breakfast that was included in the price was not even worth being included, we ended up skipping it the next day.
I would not stay here again if I were to come back to Hamburg, it was truly a dissatisfying experience and probably one of the worst hotels we have stayed in! Seriously in need of a renovation.
