When I'm away on business I expect the same quality of hotel as I would book when I'm going on a city break or a holiday and I must say this hotel is most certainly well wide of the mark.
Location wise, it is great in the sense that it is directly across from the hotel. As I entered the hotel lobby, I quickly realised this was anything but modern. With old fashioned carpets and decor, it looked as though it hadn't been touched in over 20 years. My room was really small and the bathroom was pretty grotty.
I tried out the hotel bar and although the waiter was polite and helpful, it was dull and far from inspiring. I suppose everyone has their own ideas but I like a hotel that is clean, bright and fairly modern. I like a power point next to my bed so I can charge my room and I like a couple of towels in my room so I can shower when I arrive and use a second towel in the morning.
This hotel is most certainly not somewhere I would recommend.

I have to travel to Hamburg fairly regularly on business and, until recently, stayed near my office in the suburbs. The last couple of times, however, I've stayed at The Maritim Reichshof and it's made the trips miles better.
The hotel is big and a little old, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, with good bathrooms, and the location is excellent - right by the Central Station - so there are bars, restaurants and shops close by.
It's not the most exciting hotel in the world, but it's clean, comfortable, well located and great value. Just one thing for a business traveller - beware of the 15-Euro internet, it's extremely unreliable!

I am sure this was one of the nicest hotels in Hamburg but in the middle of the 20th century...it seems there was no renovation and no investment since then.
Location is very good, rooms are quite old and need urgent renovation, all looks and smells dust and old tobacco.
Breakfast is quite average for Germany.
Overall this is quite disappointing

First impression is very good - a traditional hotel - old style. The lobby, bar and beautiful restaurant are without question what you would expect from a 4-star hotel. The breakfast is of good quality with a wide selection. Pool and relax area are nice too, the pool a bit small but nevertheless...
Sadly enough, when you enter your room the good impression disappear. My room was stale from many years of smoking combined with a musty smell from the bathroom. When I entered the bathroom I was surprised to see a very old bathtub with the enamel totally worn out and so lustreless that I could probably have lit a match on it! The impression was reinforced by the broken and repaired wall tiles and the bloodstain on one of the tiles (never cleaned during my stay).
Of course I tried to change to a non-smoking room, which proved to be impossible. The person who did our group booking had not been explicit with requesting non-smoking rooms and now the hotel was "fully booked". The lady in the reception didn´t exactly go out of her way to help me, but reluctantly put me on some kind of list for a room change the following day. Of course that didn´t happen... Later the same evening I had a chat with a lady in our company. She had got her room after me and had the similar experience with a smoking room, had gone directly to the reception, went furious and in 5 minutes the reception had fixed a non-smoking room in the "fully booked" hotel... Service?
Before going to bed I opened the window to get some fresh air and could enjoy the inspiring view of a green roof and some brick walls. I was lucky as the weather was rather cool. I would not like to try to get some sleep in that room during a heatwave - of course this so-called 4-star hotel has no airconditioned rooms!
And by the way, the internet connection cost EUR 8,00 for 60 minutes, EUR 15,00 for 24 hours or "High-Speed" internet EUR 27,00 for 1 day. Ridiculous...
This hotel could be very attractive, but needs a total makeover concerning the rooms to get anywhere near the 4-star level!
