No need to describe the Marriott Hotels to the experienced traveller. Same room size and equipment, same look and same feel promised everywhere - this is why many overseas travellers choose it and this is why I - experienced German traveller - chose it again. (Somehow McDonalds- like: You know what you get for what used to be a five star ambiance.)
In fact, the Hamburg Marriott differs in some slight respect: There are no Minibars, not even bottles of water in the rooms. You have to purchase every item from a small chocolate bar to a bottle of water even late at night at reception. Good for a youth hostel, but not for a four or five - star hotel.
One further small detail that tells you that times have changed point: All, virtually all, five star hotels will help you with lending you a standard USB phone charger if needed. And, in fact, Marriott Hamburg has some. The small difference is: They do not lend it to you, they invite you to leave your phone at the business centre with them while charging. The question whether they call you each time it rings was not answered.
Restaurant: Not really inventive cuisine: McDonalds on a more upmarket level. Uninspirational Menu with aggressive desert- marketing activities.
These small details tell you: This place is too obviously profit-driven that I have decided not to stay here anymore. I am reconsidering giving back my Marriott rewards card.
Good location, though, and reminiscences of the good old Marriott standard. Therefore two points. Hope they step back in times a few years.
