Lodging near Potsdam is not inexpensive. The signs say you are in Bamberg here but the postal code otherwise.Three nights lodging here for two was 190 Euros, paid in cash. Alf, the proprietor, was a good host but has the outward appearance of someone central casting would choose to play a Brighton Beach loan shark. The rooms have hardwood floors and pine panelling and are of average size. The beds are covered with a top sheet and a down filled duvet. The mattress was very comfortable. The bathroom is small and the shower stall smaller. No toiletries provided. No AC; a summer stay would be stuffy. There is a ceiling fan in the room. Parking on the street is free on Sundays, 6 Euros from 0800 to 2000 other days. It is almost a straight shot to Sans Souci some 2 miles away. Plenty of parking for Sans Souci this time of year; safer to take the bus at busier times. Our room had tall windows onto the street in front with diaphanous curtains; park your modesty at home. Traffic on the street is evident from 5AM on but the noise was not bothersome, even with the windows ajar for ventilation. There is a TV, with CNN the sole English channel. There is FREE WiFi. Only one person can read at night due to presence of single bedside lamp. Bathroom has light sensor, with light remaining on for several minutes after you've left. An extensive breakfast is available for E 7.50/person. The restaurant downstairs is busy but except for some loud drinking songs Saturday night, no noise issues. And the restaurant closes promptly at 11PM.There is a bakery across the street that opens at 7AM (but no jam or butter!); coffee and tea are served. Is also open Sat AM and for 2 hours Sunday AM. There is an organic bakery that was very popular a block down to the left but we did not try it. At the bakery across a large piece of apple strudel and coffee was a mere E 2. Since we were auto touring with two friends, they brought a TomTom XXL with updated European maps. What a great device; we would have gotten lost without it. It even rerouted us around traffic jams (stau's). You get what you pay for so we had no complaints here except for missing the usual extras like toiletries.
