Beautiful historic building were the Potsdam Conference took place in 1945. Set on the edge of "Neuer Garten" right by the river, it is very quiet once the visitors to the exhibition have gone. By car its no problem to get there but public transport means walking a bit. Also into city center. If you like german beer there is a small brewery round the corner with beer garden overlooking the river with connection to boat taxi to Potsdam's city center or river cruises.
The hotel and restaurant itself has always been something special. I have been to a wedding reception here twentyfive years ago and it is today just as beautiful

What a fantastic, historic old hotel. After the crowd leaves for the day, the place turns into one of the most restful and gorgeous spots around - your very own Chateau! The food was quite good. Great place to stroll around. Just down the lake a bit (10 minute walk) is a great brew pub right next to the water. Super spot. The Hotel guest rooms are a bit old (not updated) but they are clean. Its definitely worth the stay - especially for the history that took place here!

The hotel is part of the Schloss Cecilienhof, the last of the royal palaces. Since we wanted to visit Potsdam, we thought it a nice idea to stay our last day and evening here and then head for Tegel rather than lose a day from Berlin earlier in the trip. Well....our arrival was a disaster in that we did not know we were supposed to park in one of the outer parking lots. We drove through to where we thought the entrance would be but then it took about fifteen minutes to back all the way out to the lots since there is no room to turn around. I think the hotel should inform their guests of this IN ADVANCE. Also, there was no real staff to handle baggage and the trip to the room was up a steep staircase and down a long hall with steps every eight feet up and down. They did provide someone but she was really unable to handle our luggage. The room looked down and out and was not air conditioned. The pathetic little fan did very little to keep the room cool. A bottle of liquid soap was the extent of the amenities in the room.
On the positive side, the hotel is on a river and right near a lake and set at the edge of an exquisite park. The palace is also the site of the WWII conference in 1945 so there are a large number of visitors but they disappear after around 5 pm and you have the place to yourself. You can dine on the terrace of the restaurant overlooking a beautiful garden. If you do decide to sta;y here, just don't expect much of the hotel and hope for a great GPS system (we had one) because getting out and over the highways to the airport (or Berlin) is a challenge.

This is an attractive historic hotel set in a beautiful park. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed it immensely. Our room (a deluxe double) was spacious, beautifully decorated and overlooked the park with a glimpse of the lake. The only downsides were the old-fashioned portable TV and lack of toiletries – just liquid hand soap. We didn’t like the fact you had to pay €5 if you wanted a bathrobe, and the promised internet access was actually a T mobile hotspot at €5 an hour.
The deluxe single for our friend was advertised as having a “large seating area” whereas in fact it was merely a small double with a chair and table at the end of the bed.
The dining room is magnificent and the food at breakfast and at dinner was superb.
What was nice was the availability of coffee and biscuits together with a bowl of apples in the lobby. We would definitely stay here again.
Top tip – reserve a table for breakfast/dinner by the windows – the restaurant gets incredibly hot.
