We spent the evenings of 31 December and 1 January here as a get away and had a wonderful time. The room was spacious and quiet (considering all the fireworks outside) and the breakfast buffet was excellent. At first we thought the buffet was so nice because it was New Year's day, but the same excellent selection was offered the next morning as well. I have to mention that not only did they have wash clothes (yeah!), but the pillows were so comfortable that I wrote down the manufacturer's information so I can order some for myself.

The location was also very convenient. We arrived by car and it was easy to find with a public parking lot just across the street if the hotel's lot is full. All together a very enjoyable stay.

We spent just one weekend in August there. And it was great. I am going to say more about the town of Potsdam elsewhere. The hotel is very conveniently situated in a quiet street, on the edge of the great park of Sanssouci, virtually a minute away from Friedenskirche entrance. There is an underground public car park integrated within the hotel (15Euro per day); lifts, stairs leading to the ground floor and reception. The building itself has 4-5 storeys and I suspect on the top two are superior rooms with balconies and the view. The others will be standard rooms. We had one of those on the first floor overlooking the street and a café on the other side. The décor alludes to the renown pre war German film industry; there is a museum of moving picture in Potsdam. Furnishing is pretty basic but it is good quality, comfortable, clean and tasteful. Excellent quality toiletries. Pity there were only three English tv channels(BBC,ITV,MTV). No air-conditioning but a large classy fan at the ceiling was sufficient. Pay for bar in the room.Moneywise, we got a very good deal on the net. The staff is exceedingly polite and helpful unlike in many other German hotels we have been to where they are very efficient and quick but impersonal and detached nevertheless. Good command of English. Breakfast(self-service, 11Euro per pereson) was delicious. We also had late lunch/dinner at the restaurant and Alsatian tartas we ordered were truly exquisite. The same goes for Prosecco we drank which in other establishments was not so good. Likewise, the service was equally up to v. high standard. The restaurant is a bit small but one does not feel the of lack of space due to floor to ceiling windows looking out onto a small courtyard with even more tables outside and a small back garden. Another perk we had were free pass for all means of public transport in Potsdam and Berlin and free sauna.
In a nutshell: one of the friendliest hotels we have been to, a dream place for a weekend out in Potsdam.

This hotel is lovely and in a superb location for the Sanssouci Park and into the city centre for restaurants. Does not do twin rooms at the cheap rate - we upgraded to a superior twin/double and it was well worth it - we had a superb patio/balcony on 3rd floor facing SW.
The reception staff speak English, but all information and menu's are in German. The restaurant staff speak a little English, and our waitress kindly interpreted the menu for us.
Provides free bicycles which we took great use of.
Did not use the spa and there is parking on site.

Our hotel stay was pleasant, but the best thing about the hotel is the free stamp on your key card that entitles you to free public transportation in Potsdam and Berlin, including the regional express train between the two cities! Management made us a gift of free sweets and bottled water upon arrival. The staff was attentive, courteous and efficient. Kudos to the barman and the young lady who made our dinner reservations for us (also great dinner and sight seeing recommendations). The location is perfect for sightseeing.

However, the hotel itself and some of the staff were not as nice as the hotel and staff at the Steigenberger in Stralsund. We had a standard room in Stralsund and a deluxe room in Potsdam, but Stralsund was better. The mattress in Potsdam was sagging towards the middle. The standard room in Stralsund seemed larger and better thought out than the room in Potsdam. Maybe that is why I liked Stralsund's Steigenberger better.

The breakfast was 11 Euros each with a large selection and well worth the money, but the free public transportation and location make this hotel a great value.
