“Very much worth every penny”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

The price we paid for this hotel left me fearing the worst could happen. But I couldn't be further away from the truth, a grand building with grander, modern, warm rooms awaited in a pretty reasonable location just a street away from a supermarket and Savignyplatz railway station. The zoo is a 20 minute, near enough straightline walk from the hotel too, and the railway station that serves the zoo is big enough to get you anywhere in Berlin you want to go. Kurfurstendam shopping street is also very close by. The bakery on the same street offers friendly service and good breakfast items. There's even a prostitute further up the same street too if you want one! Don't be put off though as this attracts no trouble or unsuitable scenes. If you find this hotel for cheap, snap it up! As for Berlin itself, I wouldn't recommend bringing kids, as aside from the zoo they won't enjoy it. Sightseers, shoppers, history buffs and food lovers should book Berlin now. Definitely take the time out to visit Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Oranienburg. Plenty of tour operators will take you. Anyone visiting the Reichstag and wanting to go inside for a look MUST register at least 3 days in advance online, a fact I wish I knew in advance! It's a wonderful building and a must see. Pariser platz and Checkpoint Charlie also have a tremendous atmosphere about them. The zoo is a must see! Definitely pay 20 euros and get a combi-ticket for the zoo and aquarium together!

Room Tip: Room 4 is excellent, and no real noise can be heard despite being directly on the street.

“I am a Berliner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

The newly renovated rooms in an ancient house with very high rooms located in Charlottenburg give a charming atmosphere. Round the corner everything you need: bakery, restaurants, shops and stations for the public traffic. The staff is friendly, helpful and easy going. I will go there again, if I come to Berlin the next time.

“If you like a budget hotel with a good location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

Well – Hotel Pension Elegia was alright. I’ve been to Berlin a couple of times now, with friends, girlfriends and on education trips. I like to live close to Ku’ Damm, because I think it’s in center of it all, close to shopping, sightseeing and good food.

Hotel Pension Elegia has mostly pros and not the many cons. Again you get what you pay for, when you’re traveling light on the price.

Pros:
Nice location, and ok rooms. I always book a room with adjoining bathroom, because I do not like to mingle with people I do not know, on the bathroom. This time I travelled with two of my buddies, and we had music and the room, and there were no complains.

Cons:
The breakfast cost 6.5€ and it to be eaten at the little greek restaurant nearby. I would not recommend this, there’s a kind of sloppy attitude on the restaurant, and the breakfast is boring. Go to another place for breakfast.

But overall a good hotel, if you like a budget hotel with a good location.

Room Tip: Book the rooms at the hotels homepage (it's cheaper) and pay a little extra for a room with a ba...

“Ideal location for our needs, clean and spacious apartment.”

We know and love this part of Berlin (the area between SavignyPlatz and the Ku'damm), which is why we choose the apartment within the hotel. My wife, daughter, her husband and I stayed here over four nights and found the place to be good value and just what we wanted.

The actual enterance is a little strange, you walk through the main body of the huge tennement block which houses the hotel into the cetral garden area before reaching the reception. Not a problem, just a little wierd. Up a few stairs and you are in the newly refurbished flat. Bright, airy and plenty of room for the four of us. Only mini draw back was they only cleaned every other day and the towels were a bit thin and tired, could have been better quality and changed daily, but we didn't pay 5 star prices, so we certainly didn't complain, we did however ask for extra toilet rolls!

Didn't have breakfast (or use the kitchen, as it was Euro 6 for each at breakfast and an extra Euro 10 per day if you used the kitchen fridge, cooker etc). There are a selection of bakeries and deli's within 100 metres, so breakfast is easy and cheap.

In a nutshell: very pleasant stay, would use again if in a small party of four, no more, even though it sleeps six.

“A little disappointing...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2010

We stayed at this same pension in 2004 when it was under different ownership and loved the personal service, the location and the price. Obviously, the location is still great, but the price has doubled and the service is basically non-existent. Breakfast is now a paid add-on, the pension's office was usually closed and our room had very little bedding. Moreover, we couldn't get our WiFi connection to work and our room wasn't cleaned one of the days. While there's nothing horrible about this place it is sadly not the B&B-type service some might remember from its previous incarnation as Pension Niebuhr. It is however clean and still in a top-notch, yet quiet, location. I'd think it not too hard to find something better in Berlin for the same price though.
