The price we paid for this hotel left me fearing the worst could happen. But I couldn't be further away from the truth, a grand building with grander, modern, warm rooms awaited in a pretty reasonable location just a street away from a supermarket and Savignyplatz railway station. The zoo is a 20 minute, near enough straightline walk from the hotel too, and the railway station that serves the zoo is big enough to get you anywhere in Berlin you want to go. Kurfurstendam shopping street is also very close by. The bakery on the same street offers friendly service and good breakfast items. There's even a prostitute further up the same street too if you want one! Don't be put off though as this attracts no trouble or unsuitable scenes. If you find this hotel for cheap, snap it up! As for Berlin itself, I wouldn't recommend bringing kids, as aside from the zoo they won't enjoy it. Sightseers, shoppers, history buffs and food lovers should book Berlin now. Definitely take the time out to visit Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Oranienburg. Plenty of tour operators will take you. Anyone visiting the Reichstag and wanting to go inside for a look MUST register at least 3 days in advance online, a fact I wish I knew in advance! It's a wonderful building and a must see. Pariser platz and Checkpoint Charlie also have a tremendous atmosphere about them. The zoo is a must see! Definitely pay 20 euros and get a combi-ticket for the zoo and aquarium together!
