Previous reviewers have said it all except for the ones describing the area as 'seedy' who have obviously not seen much city life! I have stayed in numerous hotels along and around the K'dam in central Berlin and on the outskirts as well and this hotel has been the best so far and will be used again ( I visit Berlin 2 to 4 times a year). Charlottenberg is but a few S-bahn stops from the very centre of the city but there are sites to be seen all over the place. The hotel has furniture that matches throughout, rooms neutrally decorated without any tacky prints on the walls, en suites that are not cramped, comfy beds. No neighbour noises, no toilet flushings or gurglings (cisterns are silent fill). Yes you will hear traffic noise if windows are open, what do you expect in a city, cows mooing? Try a hotel on a K'dam intersection for noise, emergency vehicle klaxons will blow your mind and yes they are even used at 3 a.m. I heard just one during my four days at the Artim and that was during the day when walking back to the hotel. The dining room is kitted out in a nautical style (but no tacky fishing nets or mermaids hanging from the ceiling a la Espana). The food is the same every day but there is a fairly wide choice and I found the scrambled egg and bacon to my liking plus it is fresh and the girls that look after the tables were very nice too! I found the reception staff very good with fluent English and even a sense of humour with some and Germans are not noted for their humour. They have a difficult job trying to please all of the people all of the time - I know, I've had some during my 50 years of work. The Artim for me was a good allrounder and well worth what I paid.
