“Stay away”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

I stayed there for two weeks for work which they were quite aware of but they put me over the bar and next to a function room. Noise at all times of the day and night. When I asked to change rooms they would not oblige. They also had a computer "glitch" that managed to charge my bank account 670 euros for charges that I didn't incur. The charges were taken out every night at 3am. Hmmmmm. When I went to the front desk they were in no way helpful and said it wasn't theyre fault. After countless phone calls to the hotel the manager was finally able to sort it out , but it took two weeks to get the refund

“Stylish, Stylish, Stylish, Poor Rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I ordered a superior room for my wife and me.
The hotel became in 2011 an 4 star hotel.
It is very stylish but room 149 does not fulfill the requirements of a 4 star hotel.
It is loacted in side wing, accessible only over a stair case, no elevator.
What we got was a room located to the patio directly over the open staircase.
The patio was operated until late in the night. And we had a warm spring.

The room has just one 50cm bar and no more place for hanging your wardrobe.
There was no wardrobe where to place your shirts, blouses. etc.
We were living out of the open suitcase, which we had to place on the floor, because there was no board to place a suitcase.
According to the hotelstars.eu a 4 star hotel had to fulfill specific requirements.
Even a hook for hanging a sack with your wardrobe was missing.
Mandatory critirias are not installed, like movable mirror in the bath.

No movable table, just a stylish piece of wood fixed to wall, no two chairs only one and a stool with no backrest was provided..
Air condition was terribly adjusted, so cold air could not be diverted from the beds.
It was necessary to switch off and to open windows to the noisy patio.

TV is mounted on the wall about 1,70m above ground..
The room is clean.

We complained about the room, but no alternative was available.

Breakfeast is generous.
According ot the number of rooms cooking facilities are very limited.
There is only one cook at, who prepares e.g. a fried egg. If a group ordered eggs for 5 persons you have to wait about 7 to 10 minutes, because ther is only one flame.

Unwillingness was shown when I told that the ham (pork) must not be placed on the same pate with ham (turkey). With respect to guest with food rules lile muslims nad jews.
For a 4 star hotel that has to be standard, strictly to obey.

As smokers the smokers room is very well sorted with cigars and spirits.

If there is less style and more practical installation in the room, it is recommendable, but in this state it does not fulfill a 4 star standard.

Room Tip: Don' t be a smoker. Smoker rooms a limited and poor, that is our impression.

“Great Hotel but they're a little "stingy"..... :(”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

Stayed here during the New Year's Eve celebration (2011-2012). Booked for four days. Great location near the shopping district area (Kufferstdam). Easy access to S-Bahn and U-Bahn, Buses and Taxi's all at walking district. I label this hotel stingy for two reasons: internet access is not FREE !! Most hotels that I've been to in Europe provide this free of charge. This hotel is considered a four star hotel. Two: parking space behind hotel available but they charge 18 euros a day ! I can deal with these two shortcomings. Hope to return again someday. Big Plus: the morning brunch is excellant ! :))

“Good Location, Just Dont Access the Internet.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We stayed her as a family and loved the location close to shops and a Christmas market as well as being only a short walk to the Zoogarten train station. We had a large 'L' shaped family room with the children in bunk beds at one end, and the parents in two single beds pushed together at the other. It was great that a hotel thought of families staying and had even included some toys in the room. The only disadvantage was that the shower opens directly into the bedroom, so no privacy if you take a shower, also no iron in the room if you want to press your clothes.
We were attending a party so we could hardly complain about the loud music coming from the function room above, but if you do take a family room ensure that there aren't any evening events happening, or you'll be taking part whether you like it or not.
Skip the hotel breakfast buffet and walk around the corner the superb bakeries where a family of 4 can eat their fill of patisseries, tea, coffee and juice for less than the price of a single place in the buffet.
We had a mix up at checkout where we were not charged the rate that had been quoted to us at booking, probably due to miscommunication, but then again our confirmation email hadn't included any price. Happily this was quickly sorted to our satisfaction, but this might have been avoided with more transparent pricing, which brings me to the internet fees.
The hotel charges an unbelievable EUR 24 per day wifi usage, as much as most residential connections cost per month. At that price I would expect my requested web pages brought to me by a butler on a silver tray, not a standard net connection. Equally, the internet access page should have a flashing red warning message informing users of the charges, not hide them away in small print where they can be easily overlooked, especially if you don't read German. At checkout we were able to negotiate the fees down to a more reasonable hourly charge, but I did wish that I'd paid more attention when the inevitable “Dad, can we use the internet?” request was raised.
The hotel building is lovely, our room was well designed, and although our issues were quickly resolved I can't help but feel with better communication such issues shouldn't have occurred in the first place.
