“Strange but functional”

Clean and functional, but a bit wierd! Fine if you just need somewhere to sleep and shower. Location is excellent for Kurfurstendamm(?) main shopping street.
The hotel has no ground floor lobby, entry is via the lift of a building which I think also has private appartments, then there was a locked door between the landing and reception. However, the receptionist/owner?/manager? was pleasant and helpful, and fortunately had some English, as I have no German. The room was, well, odd. My booking was for a single with wc and shower. The room was very large, with a really high ceiling, and very low furniture, which gave a rather odd feel to start with. The furniture was all really cheap, eg. the top drawer on the chest of drawers wouldn't close because the top of the chest was bending under the weight of the telly, second drawer fell appart as I opened it. There were three single beds in the room, two of them made up into a large flat, well, thing, and the third being made up as my bed, which was smallish, but, as it turned out, perfectly comfortable. The room was fairly quiet, and had a door which could be locked with a key from the inside, which always makes me feel more secure. The bathroom worked, and there was plenty of hot water and reasonable pressure for the shower. There was no desk or useable table in the room.
Breakfast was a help yourself buffet and was plentiful and stress free. Otherwise there is a fridge at reception with some cold drinks, anything else you have to find outside the hotel.
On balance, I would say overpriced for the quality of the room, but if Berlin is full (as it was the week I stayed), provides a fairly secure-feeling and adequate base for sleeping and leaving your clothes. Wouldn't want to spend any time having to hang out in the room though. I think there may be a more up-market set of rooms which would give a different experinece, as mine was called something like 'comfort economy', but was all that was on offerwhen I booked.

  • Liked — Attitude of manager
  • Disliked — Room had very makeshift feel, no staff or service obviously available at night

“ok location but some problems”

i just returned from a 5 daystay at this pension. I arrived around mid morning. I was buzzed in at the front door and saw a sign that the place was located on the fourth floor. I took a small elevator up--it was small and a little worn. It was a older establishment and a little frayed. My first complaint was at check-in. I had booked a single room ensuite. the desk manager had my reservation but told me that the room only included a shower and no toilet. But he had a cancellation for a single room that had one but it would be $6 more per night. I didn't argue and agreed to the difference. He also wanted payment up front. I presented my credit card but he wanted cash. I pointed to the credit card accepted sign and he relented. He took me down the hall and showed me the room. It was very small and spartanly furnished. A bed, small night stand. 1 wooden chair. and a tiny television on a rolling stand close to the floor. The rolling stand was needed to pull it alongside the bed in order to hear it. The volume was preset to the lowest possible setting and could not be adjusted. During the course of my stay my bed sheets were never changed and my room was never vacuumed. I found the breakfast to be adequate. There were rolls, juice, fruit, cereal, cheeses, and coffee. I also liked the location. It was one block from Kurfurstendamm st . There was a bus and u-bahn stop at the corner and made getting around easy. I also found a little currywurst stand at one end of the street where you could get very good and inexpensive food and beer. It was open around the clock. I would stay somewhere else on my next visit.
