My heart was so touched by my experience here that even a year later I think about this place and needed to write about it!
I absolutely LOVED this little Pension. It was my first time ever staying at a place that was not a "nice" hotel - mainly because I am afraid of scary, dirty surroundings. My husband loves to rough it, but me... not so much.
I was immediately put at ease of any concerns as soon as I walked through the door. The building is old, very old, and full of character. Beautiful - heigh ceilings, lovely atmosphere.... obviously renovated; not the best job ever but who really cares?
The "staff" - didn't speak English but were helpful and sweet. I use quotations since they is no concierge or anything - maybe a "caretaker" is a better term?? The building was maintained with a lot of LOVE, that was easy to tell. Immaculate!
We had a room with a private bathroom; it was great. Clean, bright and taken care of. Watch out, it IS slippery! The rooms were super clean, with a wall-mounted flat screen TV! BBC world news!
The one down side was that our room was literally connected to the kitchen, so during breakfast time we could hear everyone! Breakfast ended at 10 am, and being jet-lagged, it was easy to stay in the room and leave after everyone was gone.
We chose NOT to purchase breakfast, but from what we saw it was very basic - but certainly edible. The staff was up at 5:00am every day getting ready.
EVEN with this little annoyance, our experience here was wonderful.
Walking distance to the S-Bahn/U-Bahn and to many restaurants along cobble stone roads...
Highly recommend it! Left with wonderful memories and I absolutely be back when we visit Berlin again!
Room Tip: Request to NOT have the room at the kitchen :)
