Clean rooms and professional service for a reasonable price for peak reason. Central location in Berlin.

A&O Hostel was a drop off for the Busabout route so we thought we'd give it a go... bad descision.
The place is in the middle of the very run down outskirts of the city (next to some kind of anarchist commune). It's a long walk in a scary area to find any restaurants, metro stops or convenience stores.
We stayed in a private room. We'd booked a double bed, but the gave us 2 singles. The beds were hard wood with a thin piece of foam as a matress. I hardly slept the 2 nights we were there. It was like a rock. Having said that, the room was clean (Germany after all) and the private bathroom was good.
The breakfast rooms were busy and like being on a school camp. masses of people lined up trying to get their hands on some pretty terrible food.... wait... I just remebered... there was a school camp there! 3 busloads of teenagers were staying.
There was no free wifi, it was a coin operated system in the bar.
Overall a pretty sad place - spend the extra money and stay somewhere closer to the action, or at least with a decent bed.

This A&O Hostel & Hotel Berlin Mitte is in good location but in calm and quite area. It is ten minutes walk from Ostbahnhof DB station which is the originating station of most of the DB trains. It is multistoreyed buiding I stayed in a private ensuite room. Private rooms are very small and attached toilet is very small. Price is quite high according to room size. It's door locking system is excellant and quite safe. No restaurants are nearby. Famous Berlin Wall is near to the DB station. Berlin tower can viewed very well from the bridge near the Hotel. Breakfast is very good but purchasable (4 Euro). Location wise very good as people can go anywhere of Berlin through S-bahn trains as well as long distance trains by DB trains.

We booked a double room on the "Hotel" part of the building.
The Hostel is quite near from the U and S-bahn, but even if it's officially in "Mitte", it doesn't have a very central location. That said, it's not far from the animation with the subway.
Room was clean, but staff attitude was disapointing, especially for Germany: quite rude guy at the reception, and the lady that cleans the room entered twice our room before check-out time.
For the same price, I know it's possible ton find better in Berlin
