Firstly this hostel was very easy to find, just round the corner from the Oranienburger Straße station. When our party came round the corner and spotted the common room, complete with pool table we were elated. On closer inspection we found what I can only describe as a room full of Models! At this point I ran to reception to have a closer look. I don't know how they managed to get so many attractive people in one place. The staff at check in gave us clear instructions and were very friendly. We went up to our room which was clean and spacious (we were a party of 3 in a 6 bed mixed dorm) the communal bathrooms were all fairly nice as well (however hold on to the shower head as I sent mine flying across the room like a snake after 17 redbulls when i turned it on) . The staff were happy to answer our questions about where the best clubnights and bars were. Also there is free wifi in the reception only, not in the rooms, which is pretty reasonable as I wouldn't really appreciate someone tapping away on their laptop all night. Breakfast is free if you are staying more than 3 nights and you can get free tea and coffee all day. The bar is very reasonably priced as well. I'm not sure if the Australian 6ft 2 hunky room mate comes as standard but all I can say to Heart of Gold Hostel is "Thanks Dahlz"

ps the dj plays awesome tracks at night as well!

Three friends and I booked a four bed dorm when in Berlin for the Marathon. We stayed for four nights after the marathon. The room and communal area (seating area and bathrooms) were clean and really nice, better than expected. The bar was cool and the staff friendly and helpful. Centrally located and ideal for exploring Berlin. Would definitely recommend.

It started out to be a nice place to stay in but the staff working the reception were extremely RUDE on several occasions. The staff do not appear to be aware of the limits of a staff-guest relationship.

I was staying with a visiting female friend and it was unusual to see that the male staff was constantly trying to hit on her at the tables with free drinks whilst trying to man the reception at the same time. He even refused to serve beer to a male friend who he probably saw as competition citing some strange service break. I have NEVER heard of a service break at 9:45pm!

It seems that many of the male staff do their hostelling duties against their conscious will and are holding on to their jobs in the desperate hopes of trying to bed travelling female guests.

Is this a hostel or a pick up joint for the male staff?

This COULD be a nice place to stay but the staff and their overwhelming freedom to interfere with the activities of the guests is simply unacceptable.

liked all in the hostel stayed there for 3 days with friends and i wish i were there more
